Hi, we are considering a trip to Cape Cod in late June with 2 small children (ages 3 and 5). We have never been there and have no idea where to stay. Some say Brewster, Falmouth, Orleans or Chatham. We want to have easy access to the beach, places to walk to for dining and shopping, and a place where we could have adjoining rooms (so all 4 of us are not in the same room). Not overly expensive either, if possible. Does anyone have recommendations?? Thanks!
Cape cod with small children in late June - what area to stay?

Renting a house is usually the best bet when you have kids. If you want to be near beach and have a town for shopping/dining I love Harwichport. Cute little town with restaurants, shops, etc. Chatham is another option, though probably more popular and expensive. For renting houses I've had great luck with www.homeaway.com or vrbo.com
The Cape Codder in Hyannis is great for children - they have an indoor wave pool. Renting a condo at Oceans Edge in Brewster is perfect as well. We did that for 6 straight years. They have an indoor and outdoor pool. However, it's quite expensive. Be sure to do the go karts, batting cages, bumper boats at Harwich.
If you want to be near a beach where the kids might actually be able to go in the water, the south shore of the Cape would be your best choice. The beaches there are calm, and quite warm (although late June is still early for swimming). Look at a town like Falmouth which has safe warm beaches, a great downtown, and lots of shopping. There are several motels right on or very close to the beach. True this part of the Cape is the busiest, but it still has lots of New England charm.
For all the things you've mentioned, you might also want to consider Dennisport or West Dennis in the Mid-Cape region.
These villages are known for their family oriented atmosphere. Plenty of restaurants that cater to families with children, lots of stuff to do with kids, and conveniently located for day trips here and there.
And, for late June, you should be able to find a reasonably priced rental cottage on or near the beach on Nantucket Sound. (Nantucket Sound beaches are great for younger children.)
As much as I love Falmouth, it's not the handiest location for those who want to see the Cape Cod National Seashore (a must-do, IMHO!) and explore other areas of Cape Cod.
More suggestions requested please! I think we've narrowed our search down the following places on the Cape. What are you opinions on the following, and which would be best?
A) in Falmouth - Beach Breeze Inn (They require 50% deposit, which a little steep, and our kids would have to sleep on a pull-out couch in the living area).
B) in Brewster - Oceans Edge Resort (but we would consider one of the Villas, as opposed to the Mansion, meaning we would not have access to the resort's private beach).
C) in West Dennis - Lighthouse Inn (but had some mixed reviews from what I've seen).
Still considering other places too, if you can recommend any place clean, comfortable, family-friendly, please let me know. Many thanks!
