In my quest to see all 50 states, I am finding airfares into N. Dakota quite pricey. Any ideas of airports in nearby states where the flights would be cheaper?

Most logical destination for a relatively cheaper flight would probably be Minneapolis.
Grab your pp and fly to Winnipeg YWG
Or take a look at the last minute fares for the weekend. You may be able to fly to Fargo on Saturday and return on Monday or Tuesday at a very good rate ($279 from LAX on United or Northwest).
Minneapolis is about a 4 hour drive to Fargo. Are you doing this just to do it, or are you actually making a vacation out of it?
If you don't mind smaller airlines:
Flying from Denver into Williston, ND or Dickinson, ND:

I've not flown into these airports or used this airline so...Next month are $109 one way fares though.
2. Flying from Vegas to many small airports throughout the US including Fargo and Bismarck, ND:

Some fares this spring are $79 OW.
Good luck.
I agree with those above that stated Minneapolis if you want to stay in the US.
Although mrwundrful's Winnipeg suggestion sounds like a lot of fun.
Have fun in your quest!
