My family and I are going to Gordonsville VA the week of July 9th. My husband and children haven't been to the beach before. Which beach would be the closest and best to go to? We like a place that's not crowded and would have shops and habors. Thanks.

The closest ocean beach would be Virginia Beach, about 170 miles and 3 hours from Gordonsville. For directions go to freetrip.com
Virginia Beach is by far your closest bet, but it's definitely quite crowded and congested in July. First Landing State Park at the very north end of Virginia Beach is somewhat off the beaten track -- relatively easy to get to and typically much less crowded than the boardwalk area of Virginia Beach. Just be prepared for lots of traffic coming and going through Newport News and Hampton via I-64. Enjoy!
That is what I thought but wanted to see if anyone had a better idea. Thanks
