Hello all...My husband and I will be traveling to Hawaii in March for our 30th anniversary. My husband and I are in our mid fifties and are fairly active as we bike, hike, kayak, paddleboard and work out at the gym several times a week..
#1 Our first stop is in Oahu where we will spend 6 days with family stationed on the Naval base. We will be renting a car to keep ourselves busy while the family works. We'll be keeping fairly active here with paddleboarding, hiking Diamond Head, maybe Stairway to Heaven 
, Koko Crater, Pearl Harbor, a luau and whatever else the family might suggest.
#2 The second half of our trip will be in Kauai. Also renting a car here. We'll spend 7 days there doing a photo tour, hiking, whale watching, ziplining and kayaking. Somewhere in there we'll find some time to sit back and relax. 
However, right now I'm trying to book lodging and I'm not sure whether we should stay at a condo or at a B&B. We've enjoyed B&B's in Europe but I was wondering if a condo might be the better way to go in Kauai.
Any input on our itinerary and on lodging in Kauai is very much appreciated. I've been researching online and in travel books and am ashamed to know that I am so ignorant of our 50th state! There is so much to learn! Forgive me if my post is too vague or lacking info that you might need.

From my experience with this, I would recommend the Condo option through www.vrbo.com there are thousands of listings by investors and private owners...
with a B&B you will have fewer options and less room...
UNLESS... someone you know has stayed at a B&B and can personnaly recommend it from their direct experience...
I prefer a condo. It's easier to cook, grill, and I like the additional space.
My husband, daughter, and I rented a small cottage in Hanalei. We loved it! We've rented condos through VRBO on Maui and the Big Island, as well.
Lots of nice condos down in Poipu, where you would want to stay that time of year. Whatever you do, book your car NOW. I use:

They rent from all the majors and you get a second driver for free. Kauai is my favorite island.
March is one of the wetter months on the north shore of Kaua'i, so I suggest you look in the Poipu area. And I agree with others that a condo, or a cottage, would be the best way to go. Even if you don't plan on cooking, you'll appreciate the space.
Another vote here for a condo. We will be there in March and we stay on the eastside of the island.
Thank you for all the replies. Jamie99, I was able to save $164.00 by going to the site you recommended! Still trying to decide on lodging. I really do want a/c where ever we decide to stay. I know that March is not overly warm in Kauai but I don't like the humidity. I'm a bit spoiled with my a/c here in Florida.
we stayed in Oct at the Plantation Hale suites in Kapaa. Nice 1 bedroom condo. A/c, nice location
Glad you were able to save some money normal, you might find some with AC in the bedroom, not many will have it for the whole unit. Maybe take a look at the newish Waikomo Stream Villas, they have good rates right now and may have AC, but they are not beachfront. If you want beachfront take a look at Kiahuna Plantation, beach is great there. Have a great trip.

Kiahuna is wonderful, but no A/C at all in the units.
I have stayed at a B&B in Kauai, in Kapaa ... was not as expensive as a condo and surprisingly very private, considering that other people were also staying there. The drawback was that it was not near the water, although it was centrally located to get to either North or South shores. I don't think there was A/C but it wasn't needed b/c of the breeze.
Hawaii is much more pleasant than Florida as far as temperate weather (read - much less humidity) - and less need for an a/c. And in March, doubt you will need it at all.
And as far as B&B v. Condo - it's all up to you, how much you will stay in the room/unit, the availability of a fridge - and/or a small kitchen, or even a microwave, price, location, etc.
