I'm at my wit's end.
My sister is going to UVa as a freshman. We grew up in Hawaii but I live in PA now. I'm the only family near her at this point and she has asked if I will visit over Nov 3 weekend. As far as I can tell there is nothing special happening at the University yet I can't find a room for one night in Charlottesville, VA ANYWHERE! I've looked at 16 B&Bs and some chain hotels to no avail. Since I'm a woman traveling by myself I wanted something better than a motel.
Any recs on where I can find a place for one night would be very appreciated!
Although I really wanted to be close to her for that night, what towns/cities would be reasonable distance if I looked farther away?

We stayed a couple of days at the Comfort inn-Monticello. Nice place.Paul
Culpeper is about 35 miles away. The West End of Richmond (Short Pump) is about 60 miles from UVA but is all interstate so is under an hour driving time. The Hilton Short Pump would be the closest to you and is right off 64.
Have you looked at Kayak, Expedia, Priceline?
I might be staying in that area myself on 11/4 and availablility looks fine.
It's pricey but the Hampton Inn has availability on booking.com.
I'd check the hotel's websites themselves or call them. Sometimes third party websites don´t have any more inventory but the hotel has had a cancelation..
We had trouble finding a hotel because we happen to be going to Charlottesville over the U of Va Family weekend. We were able to book a room at the Inn at Darden when every place else was booked.
That weekend is the Montpelier Hunt Races in Orange, VA. Husband and I will be there, and we actually ended up renting a guest house in Charlottesville through www.va-guest houses.com
