It's a pretty boring ride. We went to Stone mountain for a visit. It's very nice.
You could stop in Columbia at the Riverbanks Zoo. The gardens there are nice in spring. You could also stop in. Newberry, SC.
Ummm, charleston would be a pretty good place to stop for 2 or 3 days!!
Saluda, just off I26 south of Ashville has some very good and cute places to eat--particularly BBQ. Don't know the name.
Stone Mountain is a pretty good way from the road to Ashville. Fine if you're going to Atlanta.
A diversion over to Chimney Rock or Lake Lure; a diversion to Charleston and then Rte 17 down and US 21 to Beaufort.
