Hi all. We will be in Washington for the day and would like to spend the afternoon at Dumbarton Oaks. Approximately how much would a cab ride be from the White House area?
Would it be easy to get a cab from DO to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum? How long of a drive would that be?
Many thanks.

WH to DO will be about $15 give or take traffic levels. To get a cab leaving DO, walk over to Wisconsin Avenue and you should have little problem flagging one down. How long will depend on traffic but I would think under 15 minutes.
You could also pick up the DC Circulator bus in Georgetown and take it to the Mall. I don't remember off hand where we got off, but it wasn't a long walk to the Air and Space Museum.

Thanks - that's a reasonable price and time.
I want to see the museum there (at DO), and it doesn't open until 2pm, and I will be on a bus trip and we need to be back to the Air/Space Museum by 5pm for departure. It won't give us a long time at DO, but we have been doing this bus trip for several years now, and feel like we've seen the Smithsonian museums well.
Or program the phone number of a cab company into your phone and call for pick-up just before you want to leave DO, or get the mobile number of the cabbie who takes you there if he is willing.

All this time I thought it was Dunbarton Oaks but it wasn't. Good thing I didn't correct you.

Thanks for those taxi links; I'm sure they will be helfpul.
santamonica - was I right? I often butcher place names, lol.
Dumbarton Oaks was wonderful.
I wanted to visit when I read about their Pre-columbian collection (which was very interesting and worthwhile). I like walking around gardens, but wasn't sure if early April might be too early to see much in bloom.
Two of the gardens were in full, colorful bloom. We didnt' even know about the "crystal cloud" in the gardens - 100s of crystals hang from netting in an area of the garden. In the bright sunlight, it was a dazzling sight:
