A family member is planning a study visit to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN and is looking for a hotel for three nights, not too far from Mayo Clinic. Being a student she has a limited budget and considered the Days Inn, across the street from clinic. Reviews on this hotel very mixed so she is now looking for affordable (approx. $75per night for single occ.) alternative. Any suggestions?

Elisabeth, Years ago I stayed at the Kayler(sp)Hotel which is connected to the Mayo via the skyway. At that time the rates were about at your budget. Honestly, I think the Days Inn for $75.00 is a good price for downtown and I also think that budget hotels like the Days chain often do not have the best reviews because travelers often mistake them for 4 star hotels.
Thanks for your help and we do of course realize that a Days Inn cannot be compared to a 4 star hotel. You probably mean the Kahler Hotel but frankly an average rate of $120 per night without tax is a bit much for an (overseas) student. We'll keep on looking though. Thanks again.
You could contact the clinic for advice. They will help you find something. I think almost everything in the city center is connected to the Clinic, but it isn't a large town. To be honest, for 3 nights, almost anything should be OK. If it is close, take it would be me. She's going to be busy elsewhere, I would think.
I would add that if you contact the Clinic, they might even have a dormitory space available.
I am a longtime patient of Mayo-Rochester. You can give me a call at my office (406 434 5241) 9AM to 5PM Mountain time/weekdays and I can give you, what I think, is good advice on a couple of very reasonable places. My best, Puffman
Probably best you call me because I doubt that I'll ever come across this website again. Came upon it this morning merely by accident.
Puffman here. I guess I should add that when you call, simply ask for "The Puffman" and/or Jerry.
Dear Mr. Puffman, I'm sorry I missed your very kind reply. I found very good accommodation for my daughter at student rates, partially thanks to the suggestions of others on this Fodor community site. It wouldn't have crossed my mind to ask if such rates where applicable. Due to the considerable time difference it will be difficult to give you a call but I will try anyway because you have offered to help.
Thank you all again!
