Sorry, my question got posted before I was finished.

I am wondering which neighborhoods would be good for us to stay in. We love food, architecture, food, culture, food, art and food. We also like music, but are not well versed and so will not be too picky. We are not party animals. We've spent all of our lives in big cities (LA, San Francisco and Oakland) and are not intimidated by urban areas. My main concern is being near the types of sights we will be interested in, given my Mom's mobility.

You need to stay in the French Quarter, not far from Canal Street so you can take the trolley to the Garden District, a very pleasant way to see more of the city without having to walk it.

In the FQ, there are pedi-cabs, which are great for getting around and not walking. Usually they charge by the block.

Definitely stay in the French Quarter - but make sure the hotel gives you rooms off the street so you aren't kept awake by people partying all night.

Also, get a map from the hotel and have them give you very specific directions about where you can go. There are some very high crime areas only a couple of block s from the French Quarter and you want to avoid them at all costs.

Agree to take cabs so your momdoesn;t have to walk - but you can take one to and from the Garden District Trolly

Stay at the Dauphine Orleans. It's a delightful small inn in a great location. One of the best restaurants in the city is across the small street. There are other good restaurants nearby. Your breakfast is free with the room. You will love the hotel and the location.

Boo hoo. The Dauphine Orleans is booked. Can anyone else suggest a good mid-priced place to stay with my Mom in the French Quarter. Breakfast would be nice, but it not required. A place with only loud rooms would not be good. Thanks!

Oh, that is such a shame. I love the place. I've been returning for years and my mom and her friends used to go for girls' weekends. Hopefully someone will come on and share their favorites. I'll give a nudge to a couple of locals to see if they can share some ideas.

So, I am now considering: Bourbon Orleans Hotel, Le Richelieu, or Maison DePuy. Would appreciate any thoughts on these. I am also wondering about Hotel Villa Convento, but the reviews are sort of mixed on Trip Advisor.

I am not considering Melrose Mansion because it is pricer than the above which all sound nice.

Also, the following are booked: Astor Crowne Plaza, Bienville House, and Holiday Inn New Orleans French Quarter.

And the Andrew Jackson and Hotel Royal get too many bad reviews for me on Trip Advisor.

Walking in the FQ is part of the experience. If mom has trouble walking you might try to plan a walk that has frequent stops (for lunch, coffee, drinks, etc.). On a larger scale there tour bus options to see other parts of the city and places like the cemetaries that you may not want to see alone.

Bourbon street is a sight to behold at night (though perhaps quickly annoying, depending on your age and how many beverages you have consumed ) Early in the morning has another vibe, as the tourist nurse their hangovers, but shopkeepers restock.

Check out the Hotel Provincial. It's well locatred in the Frenh Quarter and very charming.

We have been staying there for years and, in fact, will be there this weekend for Mardi Gras.

I certainly hope you end up at the Hotel Provincial - I stayed there last October and thought it was very nice.
Our normal hotel of choice is on Bourbon Street, which isn't what your Mom would be looking for(!) but to spend time with friends I was at the HP, and was pleased with both the hotel and area.
