I'm planning a trip to Yellowstone Monday Sept. 2 thru 5th and then onto The Grand Teton NP for Sept 6 - 8th coming from the Boston area. Reservations at Canyon Lodge and Colter Bay Village have been made. What airports do you suggest flying into?- naturally I'm on a budget and frequently fly Southwest from Providence but will go out of Boston if it's best. The drive from SLC appears to be over 5 hours. The airport in West Yellowstone appears to be open until Sept. 30th. Any suggestions from Boston area travelers who have made this trip will be welcomed.
Looking forward to this vacation and thanks in advance for any recommendations.

For Yellowstone, you could fly into Bozeman, MT. For the Grand Tetons, the airport in Jackson, WY (connecting through SLC) is an option. So, you could do an open jaw (into Bozeman, out of Jackson) if that works or a round trip Bozeman or Jackson.
I forgot to add-
Check kayak.com or ita.com for flight options. Use the "multi-city" tool to find open jaw flights.
Oops- it's itasofware.com- not ita.com. Sorry!
You might want to consider Billings also. This would make it easy to drive The Beartooth Hwy.
Jackson would be your least expensive option.
If SWA is your only choice, then your only two options are Salt Lake City and Denver (8 hours away). SWA does not fly to Billings, Bozeman or Jackson. If you want to fly another airline (or connect via one), then Jackson, Billings and Bozeman would be the other closer options.
We also use Southwest for flying whenever possible, and have made the trip from Salt Lake City to both West Yellowstone and to Jackson, around the same time of year as you plan to travel.
It's a fine drive, and if it suits your budget better, don't hesitate to use it. For car rentals in SLC, I found the best rates at Alamo (normally I use Budget).
Thank you all for your info - I've never used ITA software and found it a valuable tool. I'll continue checking prices.
Cody also has an airport. Not sure which airline flies there.
Southwest flies into SLC and DEN. Those are the two airport options within an 8 hour drive.
I've driven from Pocatello to West Yellowstone (actually Island Park) and I've enjoyed the drive. In fact, I alternated days driving out into the countryside with days heading into the parks. I agree that driving in from SLC is a very good option.
If you do decide to fly in to SLC, check back here for route options back. A couple of choices depending on scenery, weather, etc.
You will love this area.
