Not sure when written people in the USA write it as 4th of July or Fourth of July?
Anyway, I will be in the USA this year and after attending a wedding I will have a week from July 2 to July 9 to do some solo travel.
I am thinking at this stage of going over to Miami and also exploring Key West but would also like some suggestions of best places to go for a great, 1 time only, 4th of July experience.
I had a quick look and in Key West they have a 4th of July Bar Stroll which might be fun to tack onto, but really open to any suggestions regardless of where in the USA. (I will have already been to Boston, NYC, DC, Memphis and New Orleans so maybe some where other than there)

Philadelphia: it's where it all began. The 4th in Philadelphia is quite the celebration, including the week leading up to it:
http://www.welcomeamerica.com/ Of course, it's quite likely to be hot, but if you were thinking of Miami, that shouldn't be a problem.
Another good site for planning is www.visitphilly.com, and of course there's loads of advice available here! There's quite a lot to see and do even without the 4th.
