My sister just decided we should drive down to Blacksburg for the weekend of October 12/13 to visit my nephew and go to a Hokie football game. As it turns out, that's homecoming weekend and every hotel room within 25 miles of the campus is sold out. I've started calling hotels and B&Bs to be put on a waiting list, but was actually told (by the places that takes names for a waiting list) that those lists started a year ago. Does anyone have a recommendation for alternate sleeping arrangements near campus? Condos that are rented out, etc? I've never been desperate for a hotel room before!
Thanks.

Not only is it Hokie homecoming, but that weekend is the Highlander games weekend at Radford University nearby. I was in the same boat as you, as my daughter goes to Radford and we want to go to the Highlander games that same weekend.
There are some hotels in the Choice hotel group that are still available for that Fri. and Sat. night in Dublin, VA (about 6 miles past radford on I81). Comfort Inn there is available for $99 (AAA rate). Comfort Inn and Suites in Christiansburg is still available both nights also, for $143.99 (AAA rate) and it is closer to Blacksburg. Also Roadway Inn and Econolodge and Quality Inn in Christiansburg are available (I just rechecked on all of these before I posted this).
These hotels don't get the greatest tripadvisor reviews, but you are in dire need, and they are available as of right now.
P.S. Christiansburg is about 6-8 miles from Blacksburg. Dublin is about 15 miles.
Thanks. I booked in at the Rodeway without even looking at its reviews. I'm not expecting much, so that helps!
Good luck, I am glad you at least found something.
It is A LOT Less expensive to go when there isn't a football game. Hopefully next time you (and I) go we can avoid the game weekends.
Also, double check cancellation policies. Many hotels have non-standard cancellation policies for football weekends.
