Any information appreciated.
Driving vacation after flight coming into Hobby; 2 adults who have never been to Texas. We would like lodging, restaurant and "in between" hotel/motel likes/ rec's.
More detail here about what we will do if you care to read a longer version- very much a serendipity vacation:
http://www.fodors.com/community/united-states/houston-tx-questions.cfm
We will stay in Houston at least 2 days, and I wonder if staying near the Galleria is wise or not. We will be going to Zoo, Space Center, Museums.
Other cities too- any details re favorite establishments would be delightful.

<<"in between" hotel/motel likes>>
This is meaningless. Give a budget in actual dollars.
As for restos - what do you like to eat? If you're allergic to seafood, recs for the best lobster house in Houston will be worthless.
What "Museums"? The Houston MFA is good. Wouldn't make a special trip for the Zoo.
You'd better change the "Next Trip" on your profile from Poor House to Texas
If you are coming to San Antonio, get the book The Blood of Heroes by Jim Donovan for a Ken Burns-like take on the road to Texas Independence and statehood and how San Antonio/the Alamo fit into it. Absolutely fascinating. Then take a historical tour. We recently took one of the San Antonio Walks tours, it was $16 pp plus tip.
In Houston, there is a museum district but it's not a very pedestrian-friendly city. When I've stayed in Houston recently, it's been at the medical center which is not too far from the museum district. Holiday Inn and Suites was about $115/night, but doesn't meet the in-between hotel motel description.
The "in between" was not about budget but location- any favorites or resorts or any lodgings on the road between these locations.
We are not allergic to anything. Any favorites would have been appreciated. Big Russ, it is Mus. of Nat. Science- but never mind. No need to give me any information.
We got free airlines tickets, and do not appreciate the comment, vjb. Frankly it is an ugly one too. Better watch your karma, dear. It seems that good intent and good will are nearly gone here. Manners and respect- well- too much to ask.
Thank you, follow_your_bliss, for the book rec.
BTW, we have been zoo docents at Brookfield Zoo near Chicago in earlier years and have also been zoo members for a decade or so since. We always think a zoo trip is worthwhile. We have seen probably 23 or 25 now within USA city trips, and will never pass up a zoo, regardless of size.
How sad that Fodors is now filled with such common rudeness. I'll get more information from the tourism bureaus.
JJ, I don't think vjb was being rude--more likely making a joke. Your profile DOES say next trip: Poor House.
Go to hotels.com and select star rating 3, 4 and 5 and customer rating 3.5 - 5. Also choose landmarks Galleria, Rice University and Medical Center. Move the nightly range to what you're looking for. It's a quick way to see what is available in certain desirable areas and for what price.
NO, "MFA" is Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Don't lecture if you're wrong.
I think you would really enjoy Galvestion for serendipity. A lot of people diss the beach, but the whole place has such a great vibe and it is so neat to walk, drive, etc. along the seawall. There's a free car ferry to Port Bolivar-- not much to see once you get there, but just fun to ride and come back. Plenty of good seafood and tons of interesting history.
This might be too out of the way for you -- it is outside San Antonio, but we just love this place for a fun and funky dinner. Going out that way would get you into some nice hill country scenery.

Jayne (and anybody else reading this thread), I wouldn't waste your time giving JJ5 any more helpful information. He/she clearly has a chip on his/her shoulder and has stated that he/she will be going to the tourism bureaus for further information.
Galveston has some very interesting history. there are some great old houses that can be visited--the bishop's palace is my favorite.
in terms of staying in houston. the galleria can be very crowded and a traffic nightmare, particularly around the holidays. the medical center might be a better bet. or there is a holiday inn express centrally located on route 59 in town. there are a number of museums/cultural things to visit. Bayou Bend for antiques, the menil, the museum of fine arts and the contemporary art museum. The rothko chapel is very unusual. the new asia society building is interesting.
