I will be in India in late spring. I will be there for 3 months. I am thinking of having dental implants done. Please let me know.
How much would it cost to have dental implants done in India?

Hi Cedric,
I can't help you with how much it will cost to get dental implants in India (I can imagine it is a lot cheaper than the states or the UK) but I would recommend that you strongly consider getting the treatment closer to home.
Having dental implants can take a lot longer than 3 months (around 6-8 months).
Because in one appointment your mouth will be prepared with the base of the implants placed into the correct position - You will then be given a temporary prosthesis to be worn (false teeth) during the healing period. The healing period can take up to 3 months before you have to go back to the practice and then get your permanent teeth fixed to the implants.
Which could mean that the 3 months in India is not long enough for you to complete treatment and the level of hygiene standards and care will not be as high as it is in more developed countries. The other problem you will face is if you have any complications after having the implants and you need to go back to them - You could be looking at having a higher expense due to flights back and forth between India or if you go to a local dentist to sort out you will have to pay out on top of what you have already paid.
There are quite a few horror stories of people going abroad for implants - I would say it is not worth the risk (especially for such a big treatment)
I hope this helps.
Kieran
Welcome to Fodors. If you are serious about this - then you'll want to re-post over on the Asia forum tagged for India (see the 'change forum' pull down menu).
There have been several threads about medical tourism.

Implants can be very complicated - based on patient age, general health, condition of the mouth, etc. And even in the US dentists have very different track record of success. And it is a lengthy process if done properly.
If you are looking for lower prices you might want to consider a local dental school - with professors supervising the work. That way you don't have to make repeated trips out of he county - and have immediate recourse for any necessary adjustment or problem.
IMHO -
I would no more have a dental implant done by anyone but a highly recommended known quantity than I would with plastic surgery.
This is not saying that dentists in other parts of the world aren't qualified - many are - but you need to be sure of who you're seeing - and their credentials and exprience.
Having an emergency filling or even crown is one thing - an implant is quite another.

Hi Cedric,
I think i can help you, i am from India. I will try to collect details about your needs, i need some time to do that,
when are you planning to come over India?
I recently had an implant here in the US. The entire process took 9 months.
Add me to the list of people that needed more than 3 months and I know someone who had complications that needed even longer than 9 months. I would never ever go to anyplace that promised speedy service. It takes time for the jaw to grow around the implant material. In the meantime, I had to use a fake tooth.
I would not go to any dentist without knowing the success rate of his implants. It should be at least 97 or 98%. If it's lower either s/he is not expert - or they are trying too many implants that have little chance for success.
The OP is a first time/only time poster. Probably long gone from Fodors.
