I need to find a hotel, B&B that is close to Mt. Sinai hospital. I am not looking for anything fancy. I just need a clean, comfortable place to lay my head at the end of the day. I am open to any ideas if you think I can not find a place uptown. I just want to be able to leave the hospital at the end of the day and be able to get something to eat, a cup of coffe and be in my room quickly and easily. Visiting hours will be 11-9pm so I will be leaving the hospital at night, alone. I feel safe in the city but I still like a nice area. Thank you

Most of the hotels on the east side are fairly upscale.
You might want to consider the Newton at 94th and Broadway. You can grab a cab or get the 96th St crosstown bus and be there in a few minutes. It is budget and reliable. And there is a coffee shop (long hours - perhaps 24 - I'm not sure) on Broadway between 94th and 95th - as well as a bunch of other casuale places in the immediate area.
There is also a Marriott Courtyard at 92 St very far east - I think near First ave. Not sure of other services in the immediate vicinity, but you can do google street view.
See if there is a room available at The House of the Redeemer on 95th Street.

I agree that the area around the Newton would be a good place for you to be. Just about anything you need will be close by. There's a Thai restaurant I like virtually next door. A Crumbs bakery a block away. Le Pain Quotidien and Starbucks nearby. Keep in mind that most restaurants deliver and you could eat in your room if you are exhausted at the end of the day. My favorites for delivery are the Thai restaurant and Pio Pio (a wonderful Peruvian restaurant that is also within a block). There are a couple of small markets nearby if you want to pick up some fruit, munchies, etc. The Newton has microwave and refrigerators in the room as well.
Thanks for fast reply. nytraveler, you were spot on with the info for getting uptown. It took about 25 minutes and cost $15 dollars to get up and 17 back down because of a bit more traffic.
I was wondering about the Newton, pictures look nice. It would be so cheap, around $85-95 a night. If you think that would be a good choice I think I will go with the Newton. Thanks again everyone.
This might help you, not sure if it is just for patients or for families as well.

Well I've never stayed there - but I know it was renovated a couple of years ago and gets good reviews for a budget place. Keep in mind that prices now are rock bottom since tourists aren;t here in Jan - prices will be triple in high season.
I saw this information on their website:

You might check on the places mentioned that give discounts to Mt. Sinai visitors.
