My husband & I are planning to take our 16 year old grandson on a short trip (4-5 days) up into Indiana from Louisville in June or July. He is attending a high school where his studies are concentrated in visual arts. He's a very talented artist. We plan to stop in Columbus, Indiana and take the architectural tour and visit the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
I'm asking those of you who are famiiiar with the area for any other ideas. We are concentrating on art but don't want to overdo it.
Also, is the Commons Mall open in Columbus?

You've correctly picked the two top things to visit if you are interested in art and architecture. There is also the Eiteljorg museum and the iMOca, which I've heard are interesting and unusual but haven't been to personally.
Other things to do: visit the Zoo (world-class), City Market, the Indianapolis Speedway Museum, the shops and restaurants in Broad Ripple, take a walk along the canal ....
If you consider cartoon drawing an art form, try to visit "Paws Incorporated" in Muncie where Jim Davis and his artist staff draw the famous "Garfield" cat cartoons that are distributed nationwide. The Muncie Chamber of Commerce should be able to assist you with arranging a tour of this campus-like facility.
I went to the website of Paws, Inc. but don't see anything about touring the facilities. I'll try calling the Chamber of Commerce tomorrow. Thanks to both of you for responding.
