Someone on the board suggested I rent with fox car rental because it is cheaper when I checked on their site. I haven't booked yet.
I wanted to ask you guys out there are they any good. I googled it. And there was 2 good reviews and lots of bad ones out there.
Is Fox Rent A Car any good?

They're fine - I've rented from them in LA and San Diego. My only problem is their "compact" cars are mostly PT Cruisers, which I happen not to like.
Never heard of them, and I rent cars all the time. My personal favorite this last year has been Dollar -- cheapest I've found; but once you check in, they try and get you to buy a zillion add ons -- you learn to say "no thanks" pretty fast.
Used Fox in San Diego and had no problems at all. We had never heard of them either until that trip, understood they had been in San Diego and were the cheapest so we tried them, and will use them again on our next visit.
I wonder where all these bad reviews came from. People complaining that their charges were much more than what they were quoted.
So, booking on line with them should be fine?
The only problem I have heard about Fox is that the cars turn only to the right.

I've used Fox in several places.
Our absolute WORST rental car experience ever was w/ Fox in San Francisco. Never again.
Staff weere surly, would not get up from teh desk where they had their feet up on, left us standing in the gargare in plain site of the car type we reserved and stated those are reserved for someone else.
Car was filthy sticky, dropped the rental contract right in some sort of gooey mess on the dash and they never even said sorry when THEY had to use a crowbar to get it off the dash...had an unbelievable amount of miles on it and it rattled so much so we had to drive it back around the lot and return for a new one. I don't complain but this time I did: never got a response at all.
I've use them in Seattle and they were just fine altho located offsite.
I used them in Phoenix. They were fine and I would use them again.
My two experiences in Orange County, CA (SNA) were positive and very reasonable. I would also use them again.

Vic's travels: http://my.flightmemory.com/vogilvie
I have used them also in Orange County. I go there to visit my elderly mother, so I have plenty of stress. Once, on the shuttle from Fox to the airport, the traffic made the trip close to 40 minutes, and I vowed, never again.
Then, the price for a 4 day weekend was a quarter the price of on-site agencies, so I decided to go with Fox again. No traffic delay.
By the way, I locked my keys in the car at a gas station next door, and called Fox with my cell phone to see if they had extra keys. Shockingly, they said they had no extra keys. I can hardly believe that's the case.
Luckily, there were two guys almost sleeping in a plumbing truck, and I asked them if they could open the car, which they could. Yeah! I gave them $20, and made my plane. Whew!
In general, like non-stop flights, I prefer on-site rental agencies, but, given substantial savings, I'll go with Fox.
Not sure where the OP is picking up her car, but all car rental agencies in San Diego are off-site. My guess is that's true at LAX, too.
Yes, there is considerable savings with Fox Rent a Car. I'm just a tad hesitant from the bad reviews. I haven't made a final decision yet.
Just got back from a trip to California and we rented from Fox San Francisco. Had a terrible experience. I would never use them again! I'm going to write a post about it.
This company has the worst customer service. I tried to contact at least 6 times over the course of a few months regarding being over-charged for something. I only received 1 response months after my first few inquiries that did not address the issue, but asked me to call them again to restate the problem- if I still wanted to pursue it. This is AFTER I had taken the time to explain in great detail (including customer numbers, confirmation codes, dates, etc.). Also "if I want to pursue it"? Really? Would you not WANT to make sure your customers are fully satisfied? Not Fox! Despite the frustration I had with their lack of attention to detail regarding even attempting to read my initial documentation- I called again to relay the specifics of the over-charge. I have yet to receive a response regarding my situation. Their version of customer service is pathetic and I am so disgusted with their lack of respect- I will GLADLY pay twice the amount to any other company just so I never have to deal with these awful people again. Yes, they may offer a lower price, but I personally would gladly pay someone more just to be treated with dignity, respect and actually feel like a valued customer.
I had two problems with Fox. First at Las Vegas I had a reservation for an economy car and got there mid-afternoon and they had rented out the last 1. They were nice enough to rent me a Jeep CJ at the same price. The driving felt strange on I15 but I thought it was just the short wheelbase. When I got to Barstow, I checked the tire pressures and found 2 tires that were under 25psi.
The next time I rented from Fox they had the car at SLC. The rental agreement said the tank was full. It was barely above half. The tire pressure indicator came on. I drove back to the lot and they found that one of the tires was at 90psi.
The other tires were OK but the pressure indicator stayed on.
I checked the tire pressures after 500 miles but they were OK.
I now use Priceline and bid $1 less than Fox's price. To save $2 per day Fox does not seem to be worth it.
I havent considered them in years & never thought Fox would last this long. They gave me the impression they were a flybynight carbon paper and rubberband type outfit runing out cheap strip mall locations. Do they now at least have proper maintenance facilities for their cars?
You get what you (don't) pay for, apparently.
They were fine in Phoenix
I've used them in San Diego where customer service was fine, but the only model of compact car available was a car I don't like, and the A/C didn't work.
<They were fine in Phoenix.>
I like the car rental set in Phoenix--the same bus to all auto rental companies.
I've never used Fox, but in Phoenix I would feel comfortable using them if doing so would save me big buck. Otherwise, I'd prefer to use a company I know I can trust--such as Enterprise.
HTTY
Be careful if Glenn Beck is behind the counter.
AVOID THEM. They are liar and murderer.
I rented a 4x4 vehicle online. When I pick up my vehicle at their LA Airport facility, they gave me a regular front wheel drive (2x4) SUV. I asked the customer representative for many times if he could confirm the vehicle he is giving to me is a 4x4 because we are going to a snowy mountain. The customer representative insisted it's a 4x4. We asked another customer rep. at the check-out booth before we leave the facility; the rep. insisted it's a 4x4.
By trusting both of the reps, we went to a snowy mountain and sure enough we got stuck and almost got us into an accident and might injure or kill all of us.
After returning the car to the company, I wrote a detail letter to the manager and have my credit card company contacted them to dispute the charges. Not only they did not offer an apology, they don't even response to us. My credit card company approved the dispute. I thought I’m being kind by just let it go without asking an apology.
Few months later, I received a letter from a collection company said I owe them the rental car charges plus interests.
How ridiculous!!! They cheat, liar and almost get us into accident, ignore to resolve their misconduct with us, and dare to send a collection letter to us few months later.
I recommend stop doing business with this company. You don't want to risk your life by saving few bucks a day.
We rented from Fox in Phoenix, and from what is posted above, it seems that no one has had a problem with them in Phoenix, although there have been many problems in other locations. We rented a standard car and after checking in and going down to the garage area to get the car, the attendant told us to 'take any vehicle in row 'X" or whatever. I reiterated, 'take any vehicle', and she said 'yes'. I said, 'even the Jeep Liberty?'? She once again stated, "any vehicle in that aisle'. So the hub happily pulled out of the garage in the Liberty (which is the vehicle I drive at home so we were real comfortable in it), and off we went.
BTW, the Fox rental agent told us that 'it doesn't matter who you rent from, they are all owned by Enterprise'. I don't know if that is true or not.
Fox at LAX stinks.
If I could give (-) Negative Stars.... I have been a customer of Fox Rent A Car for almost 2 Weeks. I have run into SEVERAL unpleasant experiences!!! I am now on my 4th car and unlike Thrifty Car Rentals, when I extended my contract I am NOW BEING CHARGED $10 EXTRA!! Whereas Thrifty would have changed my rate from Daily to Weekly (or monthly depending on how long I kept the car. Also My 1st car, Chevy Malibu, the breaks were bad and it needed an oil change, I "Swapped" for a Camaro, and had problems putting a last min car seat in the back so came back to "swap" for a full size car (the original booked car) and there was nothing but PREMIUM or LUXURY cars on the lot... NOT WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!! I ended up waiting 2 hours (one employee even stated that they had gone to lunch came back and I was still standing in the lot!!!) I left with a Chrysler 300, I went around the block when I noticed the gas tank was HALF A TANK!! I'm expected to bring it back on full, I expect to receive it on full. I took the car back they filled it but then I had to wait another 30 minutes for the paper work because they failed to give it to me the first time and I need it to get on and off of base!!!! (my husband is active military and I am retired military.) I returned the next day, the 300 was not what I wanted and had several problems with the actual car! I am now in a Nissan Altima I hope that this car is worth the $1284.00 I am being charged for 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!! This is the worst company I have ever rented from and Will NEVER RENT from them again because they have not accommodated me to a degree that I believe acceptable.
If you need customer service you might as well go to an empty amphitheater and holler for help. The response is about the same. Ridiculous. They don't even get one star in my mind. I've called and left messages time and time again and no one ever calls back. They over charged us. Bottom line. Avoid this company!!!!!!!!!
Agree!
Rented a car in San Francisco and got there to find we had no car. They got us a taxi which they offered to reimburse us for and said they would deliver a car to us the next morning. A 300 cab ride and 4 days later and we still have no vehicle. Totally ruined our vacation.
HEY GOOD NEWS!! Fox customer service finally contacted me and did give me my money back for the amount that they overcharged me. Just wanted to let you know that they did help me after being very persistent. Maybe I would use them again after all.
WARNING!!!!! THIS IS THE WORST RENTAL CAR COMPANY IN THE WORLD!! If you have any problems they will leave you on the phone for hours. They charged us 3 times for our rental and once we managed to finally get to speak with a representative, they claimed they hadn't!!!! We still haven't gotten our money back!!! They are the absolute worst!! I had to share this because it has been the worst experience of my life!!
They should not be allowed to operate. Don't rent a car with them, there are lots of good options out there, you don't need to go through this. It can ruin your return from your holiday.
***WARNING!!!!! THIS IS THE WORST RENTAL CAR COMPANY IN THE WORLD!! ***
So we've heard. Maybe you can write a review on Tripadvisor so others can avoid your nightmare. Thanks.
Rented out of Denver. Never again. Impossible to contact. They NEVER answer the telephone. I left several messages after leaving my eyeglasses in the car when returning it. I never received a reply. Earlier I tried to call with a question several times and noone answered. I emailed trying to get an answer and that was never returned. The car was horrible in the mountains. Not worth it. I'll go somewhere else.
WORST car rental experience of my life was with FOX.
Beware of this company.
Pay $5 more per day for a reputable company.
Well, you judge for yourself.
Rented a car in Phoenix in Nov 2011. Forgot an iphone in the car. Went to retrieve it. Car had been moved and readied for another rental. The phone was not where it was left. The phone was not turned into lost and found. My conclusion: the phone was stolen by a Fox employee. Your conclusion: ????. Would not use them again. I will pass the word.
Fox always has best prices for me
not always best service usually they are fine
for econos which I rent a lot.
Not noted for personal service kind of like Wal Mart
but price is ALWAYS best.
alamo enterprise priceline.com hotwire.com
better personal service at not quite as good pricepoints
for me... I hang on to my stuff do not blame others if I lose
it and always insure it so I am always fine with fox.

BEWARE FOX RENTAL! We reserved an SUV at San Francisco airport (SFO). Our flight was delayed only about 15 minutes. When we showed up at the counter (about 10:45 pm) we were told our SUV was no longer available as it had been rented out, and they had no replacements. We had a lab in a dog crate, two toddlers, lots of luggage, and only one driver. We couldnt fit in the compact car they offered us as a replacement. The solution from the staff was to take a cab to the place we were staying (across the bay) and then call another cab in the morning to take us to San Jose to get an SUV. The kicker was the rude employee who kept saying "What do you expect me to do about it?" So be careful from renting from these guys unless you enjoy being stranded at the airport...

I hope it's not too late for you. On Christmas eve, I rented a minivan for our trip in San Diego, the difference in price was almost 100.00. When we got there, they did not have the vehicle I had reserved a month in advance, and tried to give me a Chevy Aveo instead. It would have been kind of complicated to sit 5 adults, a car seat, and luggage in a car that size.
They sent us to another rental company, and offered to pay the difference. The car we received at the other place was smelly, old and had a mileage limit. At the end, we had to pay 300 dollars more. It took me almost a month to finally reach someone from customer service so they would finally requested that I sent copies of the rental agreement and the documents that I needed for the reimbursement. Which was funny, because I left copies of all those with the San Diego Branch Manager before I left. After I called their office in LA, and threatened with complaining to the Better Business Bureau, they finally sent the check 3 weeks later.
Employees are rude, they don't have the vehicles they offer, they never answer their phones. Save yourself some time, effort, pain and suffering. Go to a more expensive place, it will be worth it. You get what you paid for. Fox Rent a car is not the exception.
I'm trying to make a decision about Fox Rental for Oakland in March. I'm wondering why most of the posters on this thread signed up just to trash Fox Rental. Is there a real problem with this company or is this a "smear" campaign?? Just too weird---Deborah
I should not have said most rather most recent posters on this thread seem to have registered only to post a negative comment about Fox rental---I'm wondering what content on this thread is an accurate assessment of the company and it's cars. Deborah
I wouldn't touch Fox Rent A Car with a 10ft pole!

I just checked out this website to verify that my experience with Fox customer service was not an aberration. I made a reservation via priceline.com at an agreed price to include fees & taxes, but when my visa statement arrived the charges from Fox were more than double the original amount. After repeated email attempts with no response, I tried calling the published phone number for customer service. That proved to be a complete farce. After multiple (more than ten) attempts I was never able to speak with a live person. Once I was on hold literally 30 minutes and was then disconnected. I concur with several other previous commentors, the grief is not worth any discounted price. I would say that Fox's customer service is nonexistent and I will never use them again.
I had a bad experience with them and will never use them again.
We rented a car through carrentals.com and by far Fox was the cheapest. Since I had never heard of them, I did some research, saw mixed reviews across the country, but decided to give them a try.
After reserving, I called to see if I could pick up the car an hour earlier and after being on hold for a bit, someone answered and said it would be no problem.
My husband and daughter picked up the car with no problem at MCO. They were asked if they wanted all the add ons and said "no" to everything. However, when they came home and I checked my credit card statement online, we were charged $166 more than I expected.
Once again I called and after being on hold for a bit, I went to live chat. "Gabriela" told me that they charge $100 deposit fee which is then returned, but also charged $66 for loss damage waiver coverage. My daughter confirmed that my husband said no to everything, but Gabriela said he had signed in agreement to this. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she gave me the name of Mario A and said he'd call me.
I emailed carrentals.com my complaint, and they forwarded it to a "manager." Shortly thereafter, Mario A emailed me to apologize for the misunderstanding, and although my husband did sign (without reading first) the contract, he issued me a credit for $66.
Whether or not the person who checked my husband in was unscrupulous, I'll never know, but the manager took care of the mistake promptly and fairly. Because of that, I will consider renting from them again. But next time, my husband has learned to READ BEFORE SIGNING.
A positive I'd like to add: some companies will charge you for bringing back a car early (which is ridiculous). My husband brought it back 2 hours early wit no extra charge.
Check with www.carrentals.com for a number of car rental companies similiar to Fox. Have rented with Fox here in San Diego several times with no problems. I liked the PT Cruiser - but my wife and sister even once turned in the omni-present PT for another car in LA because they didn't like the gas mileage. Around town - it's fine.
Lately - have been going with Enterprise here in San Diego - which has the biggest selection and usually has a price comporable to the Fox, Ace, and other 2nd tier companies.
No matter -if you get a fairly new car at most of these places it will be fine. And if you get it during the weekend - generally more availability than during the week when many people traveling on business rent cars.
I had a really BAD experience with FOX rent a a car in LA.
When went to pick teh car the atendant almost forced me to do the insurance of the car. She sad that without it i should receive a $1700,00 dollars ticket from any officer that stops me! I complained with her about that and she insisted! I had no time for complainings so i just bought!
So When I book i thought i would pay $450,00. The the real price was de double! $950! That really annoyed me!
Later I discover that the ticket of $1700 does not exist!
She lied to me!
Another thing the fuel was full when I pick up the car and they charge me more 25 dollars when i return because of that!
FOX RENT A CAR NEVER MORE!
Holy Sucker is born every minute. Have never heard of a $1,700 ticket.
And the price charged was double what you had reserved. It's still not too late to report that and get some kind of refund. That's just terrible.
I wanted to report back that the rental we had with Fox at the Oakland airport was problem and stress free. We didn't pick up our car until 11 pm and still had the choice of several vehicles--we chose a Honda civic. It did have 50,000 miles on it and a few dings but we made sure they were noted on the rental form. We returned the car three hours earlier than we planned without any additional charges. They did put a $100 deposit on our credit card but that was taken off the cc by the next business day. We have now used Fox rental in Phoenix and in Oakland, I wouldn't hesitate using them again. We rent compact cars, without additional insurance coverage so might be easier to accommodate than someone needing a larger vehicle
Deborah
DO NOT EVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!! THEY CHARGE YOU FOR A DEPOSIT AND GIVE HORRIBLE SERVICE!!
#1 DO NOT HONOR DISCOUNTS ADVERTISED ON WEBSITE
I scheduled a rental through their website, which said "10% discount at new Tampa location". I followed the links, but at no time did the discount appear. I cancelled the reservation 2X and resubmitted but when it still did not appear, I figured I would receive it when I picked up the car and paid for it. When I was at their office, I asked about the 10% discount and no one had any idea what I was talking about. Then, a supervisor claimed my rate ($15.99 / day) was already discounted. I found this difficult to believe, so I asked them what the usual rate was and they could not / would not tell me.
#2 TAMPA LOCATION NOT AT AIRPORT AS STATED ON SITE
The site said that it was located at the Tampa airport but that you did have to take a shuttle. The shuttle ride took almost 1/2 hour and the office turns out to be in a very unsavory area of Tampa, definitely not at the airport. Tey claimed that they were 7 miles away and that the ride seemed longer than it was. No way, I timed it. Maybe 7 mi. from the farthest runway but not the terminal!!!
#3 THEY CHARGE YOU A DEPOSIT FEE
They insisted on charging a $100 deposit even though I gave them a valid credit card. I have never had this happen any of the many other times I have rented a car. I argued but they refused to budge, and said it was for incidentals like parking tickets or tolls, even though I had to sign a separate line authorizing them to charge my card and provide information to authorities in the event of unpaid tickets or tolls. They insisted that all other companies do this but I travel extensively and have NEVER encountered this before. Also, other more well known companies I have dealt with before, take your credit card but you are not charged until you return the car. FOX charges your card immediately; it was on my online list of transactions within a few hours. I called my credit card company they said that FOX had up to 2 weeks to issue a credit. So in effect they can use my $, both the cost of the rental and the deposit, for 3 weeks.
#4 LONG WAITS CARS NOT AVAILABLE / NOT READY/ LIMITED FLEET /POOR VEHICLE DELIVERY
Had to wait in long line and it was clear the staff had no idea what they were doing other than trying to upsell everyone with something. Even though I entered all my information online which was supposed to save time, I had to do it all over again. Customers were trying to return cars in the same line as people renting that was slowing up the process immensely and frustrating those returning. Checkout process is NOT automated like other rental companies. It was an absolute mess. I was there at 2:00 and even over heard the shuttle driver ask someone who was in line what time his flight was. When he replied “4:00” the driver said “Well, I’m going to take other people because you still have to wait to return your car”. Now remember, it was a ½ hour ride to the airport, so when exactly would the shuttle return? Is there only 1?
After I finally get through all the paperwork the agent Michael asked me to follow him out to get the car. I ordered a 4 door compact, "Ford Focus or similar" with 28/38 mpg. First they said they had no car and that I would have to wait 10-15 minutes while they "cleaned it out". They said they could “upgrade” me to a 2 door FIAT!! Since when is that anything like a Ford Focus?? The back seat would not even be useable for my purse! I again questioned why they did not have a car ready, since they had my reservation for several days and now it was over 1 hour past the time I scheduled the pick up for. I needed 4 doors so I refused. I waited, waited.........Then finally I asked another employee to find out about my car and they offered a buick, and I again reiterated that I wanted a 4 door compact with similar gas mileage. Waited . . . waited. . Then they pull out a Dodge charger. I expressed dissatisfaction, saying that the mileage was not the same as what I ordered. They said this was an "upgrade" as a compensation but that was they had. All other cars needed to be “prepped”. I asked about a Ford sitting right there in front of me and they said that was not available. Dodge mileage is 16/25 - big difference from the 28/39 compact I had reserved!!! When I got into the car, the steering wheel made the speedometer impossible to see and I could not get a comfortable position. No one explained the electronic start. They just walked away. I made a stop before arriving at my destination and could not get the car started again because I had never used an electronic start. I tried to pull out of the space in a lot and the battery light lit up, the car rolled back and I could not turn and brakes were soft. VERY scary!! After sitting in the lot sticking out for several minutes I finally figured out what to do to get it started.
#5 CUSTOMER SERVICE IS LACKING, NO FOLLOW THROUGH, LACK OF RESPONSE, CAN’T REACH A LIVE PERSON AT LOCATION
In the middle of all the aggravation of the rental my suitcase was sitting to the side while I was waiting for the car. I did not realize until I got to my destination ( 1 1/2 hours away) that I did not have my suitcase. It would have been nice if in addition to showing me the electronic start they offered to put my bag in the car or at least asked if it was mine. My name and cell phone was clearly marked on the tag. NO ONE called about my luggage. I tried to call the # I had which they said was the local number. It took over ½ hour to get anyone to answer the phone, busy then on hold. When someone finally answered it was the national customer service agent, who said they would call the office and someone would get back to me. 1 hour later no call (now 3 hours time has passed since rental). I call again, and tried the "lost and found" line who said their hours were 8 - 5 Monday - Sat. This was now beyond their hours and I wanted to make absolutely sure my luggage was there before driving back to Tampa (and wasting gas in the gas guzzling car they made me take). Again called, same aggravation, this time agent said they would e-mail the office and someone would call me. No response. Called again, same aggravation and when I insisted on being transferred directly to the local office, they transfered me to the Orlando office. The manager there was nice enough but he was unable to "find the number" to reach someone who is "on duty". Finally he gave me another direct number. 4 hours after first trying to reach them 5 ½ hours after the rental, someone finally answered the phone and I explained my situation AGAIN. I felt that after all my aggravation they should at least be willing to meet me 1/2 way to retrieve my luggage and exchange the car. I spoke to the supervisor, Havier and he assured me that first thing the next morning someone would call, and then bring a new car directly along with my suitcase to make up for all the problems.
I did receive a call at 9:30 AM and the individual asked for the address and said they were leaving with a new car (after it was "prepped") and my suitcase, and asked for my address. He said he would call when almost here. It should have taken 1 1/2 hours MAX to get here, but I was patient but at 11:30 STILL NO CAR NO LUGGAGE. I again went through the aggravating experience of trying to reach someone by phone. Took 1/2 hour even on the direct number I had finally gotten. Spoke to the manager, Greg, who said he knew nothing about any of this!! He claimed that the supervisor, Havier< from yesterday must have "delegated it to someone" when I questioned how was it that one of his employees called me this morning and was planning to be gone for almost 3 hours (round trip) and he knew nothing about it. He got very snippy about me "questioning his management". He said he would personally take care of this and bring the car and luggage to me, but that again they would have to "prep" a car. I told them I no longer care about the car exchange; I wanted my luggage and explained that I had medication in it that I have already missed 2 doses of. And why are no cars ready, they all have to be “prepped”??? After 2 hours I again started with the phone calls. I finally reached a customer service agent named Kim in Los Angeles who has promised me she would talk to her manager, get this resolved, call the local agency and then call me back. I waited. When no call back came I again tried calling the office and actually reached someone there at 2:00. I asked for Greg, they kept asking why I needed him, I briefly explained I was a customer waiting for a car and wanted to know when he left. They said it was a little after 1. He finally showed up a little after 2:30 pm. This whole scenario, from leaving the terminal until receiving my luggage back, took just about 24 hours. That meant 24 hours with no luggage, and missing a day of vacation waiting for calls or deliveries that did not come. I never received a call back from Kim or anyone ever asking if my situation was resolved. I’m thinking maybe I should leave tomorrow to begin the check out process even though my plane does not leave for 4 days, who knows what to expect. But I did receive a survey….
It seems all the rental car companies nowadays charge a deposit - but $100 is pretty reasonable. Again, have had good experiences with Fox - but have never rented in Tampa which didn't sound like any fun.
I rented a car in San Diego after booking online a mini van for $255 dollars for 7 days but ended up paying $400.00. They lure you to the cheapest deal but they have the worst in service. I will never forget this worst experience. The person I checked in with was so merciless who was using a scare tactic to sell everything they offer. He literally ruined my vacation. He offered me whether I was going to buy the Basic or Premium insurance coverage. I declined to both. Then, he started to force me to rent two booster seats after he knew I have two kids instead of telling me it was an option. I said I was going to borrow car seats from a friend or purchase one. He said the van was not leaving their parking lot with out renting the booster seats.I did not have option but to rent two booster seats for $16.00 per day. Once I went to parking lot to pick the van, there was no any van. I found out they were cleaning and washing it so I have to wait. I returned the van the next day and exchanged with another one since I had a hard time with the steering wheel. I returned the car on the 6th day but they charged me for both car and booster seats rental for 7 days. I had to wait for 10 minutes on the phone to talk to a customer service rep and it got disconnected while she tried to transfer my call to billing. I felt power less and did not know what else to do other than to write this comment. I hope some one will learn from my experience.
Today June 2012, I am here to tell you "Avoid FOX Rental".... My husband and I thought we would give them a shot, we were drawn in by their low prices. The price they quote is only an estimate. Period. They are not required to give you that low price, and they don't. Poor customer service, poor customer service... did I mention, poor customer service? In addition to the poor customer service, I have an american express card, which has a rental car insurance policy on it - if anything happens to the rental, amex takes car of it. Fox informed me that they will not honor that, but they will hold me personally responsible and charge me 129 dollars a day (for a car that I am been quoted the rate of 39 a day).. if anything is wrong with the car until they are able to get it fixed. Something doesn't seem right with this company, and I hope that someone alot smarter them me files a class action lawsuit disputing their business practices.
Last Friday I picked up a car I had reserved from Fox Car Rental at LAX. The brake pedal went almost to the floor and the interior of the car was filthy. After driving for 2 hours to Pasadena in heavy traffic, I parked and only then did I notice there was no sticker in the upper right hand corner of the rear CA license plate. I called their customer assistance number and after 49 minutes on hold was told I would have to drive back to LAX to have the matter resolved. On Monday, I spent 2 hours driving from to and from the Ontario location where I got a different car. Today, one day later, the check engine light went on. I called the Ontario location at about 4 pm and after being on hold for 57 minutes (!) I began to complain. The woman who answered said she had had it with people complaining and hung up on me!!!!!! This place is a trainwreck and really deserves to be put out of business.
FOXRENTACARHATER
And soon after that you found that a rooster and 6 hens were living in the backseat.
Not only that....
Come one, one post ever, and your handle says it all.
Do you have anything better to do than to find a forum that you didn't belong to and bash a rental car company?
Next you had to push the car 43 miles in the snow, going uphill all the way. This might be a Chevy Chase movie, if you get imatinative enough.
Next time try Hertz instead of being pound foolish and penny foolish.
I have had no problems with them but did a note to self to avoid the one in Vegas unless it is a great deal because it is off offsite. It involves yet another shuttle ride once you get to the facility where all the other rental car companies are. Not worth it for a dollar a day savings.
Awful-will NEVER rent from them again. It took over two hours to pick up our car in Denver and that's only because several families in front of us were so disgusted they walked out. The staff NEVER apologized or offered ANY explanation. Never again
Beware!
Worst car rental experience ever.
In Fort Lauddale Florida.
Head reserved a car for a week, and the shuttle phone line rang busy for over an hour.
Ended up renting from Budget. A good deal, and good service.

Have you read the reviews for Fox Rent A Car? Have you ever rented from Fox or planning to sometime soon? If no I would suggest you go troll somewhere else because a lot of people actually appreciate these people sharing their experiences and giving them a heads up on these low life companies.
I agree with FOXRENTACARHATER and would advise people to do their homework before making the decision to rent from Fox.
jungleboy - the same goes for you. This is your ONE AND ONLY post. Are you a wolf in foxhater's shoes?
Whether it's bad or good, being a professional basher doesn't do it for me.
djbrownstein - ONE AND ONLY POST. Are you folks just one person or a group of bashers?
Derek012 - another ONE AND ONLY POST. It's a gang or a prolific poster of many hats.
Rasta,
This isnt the 1st time you posted accusations on this thread
Maybe these people find Fodors after a google search and wish to share a review. A terrible travel experience is a strong motivation...unlike your vitriol which appears to be motivated by simple boredom in the wee hours of the morning
FrankS, I do business consulting for a living. I look for trends and when I see the trends it starts to give me an indication of a person's (or company's) makeup and whether it's a real event or not.
You honestly think people would go to the trouble to sign up for Fodors just to add to trash posts?
Fox Car Rental Ft. Lauderdale FL- an interesting mix of rental cars available: Fiat 500, Ford Taurus, Mustang convertible, Dodge Challenger, Chevy Camaro at decent prices, BUT, poor customer service, they will charge your credit card before you bring the car back, they will charge your card an extra amount as a deposit (which they refund a week or so after you return the car). If for some reason you have to call them, good luck to you as you can expect long wait times, if they answer at all.
We just rented a car from them in Denver. We will never use them again. Lots of extra charges, rude staff.

Realize I am two years late! ha. But I just had to comment - I rent cars for my business, travel frequently and sometimes rent 7-9 months a year or 30-40 times a year, depending. I would not recommend Fox - yes, they are cheap, but, sometimes you get what you pay for. In my opinion, and based on my experience, they are awful. I rented a car - SUV - arrived and they told me at the counter I had to take the extra insurance or I couldn't have the car; after arguing for 20 minutes, I finally was given the car - it was not an SUV, but a "CarUV" - it was dirty and smelled of cigarette smoke - when I complained they said "oh, you didn't specify a non-smoking vehicle and besides, that's the only one we have..." So, I have never used them again. Believe you're better off renting from one of the biggies - Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Dollar, even Enterprise or National have treated me better. Renting cars these days is always an iffy proposition - and you always have to be careful (in my experience), but there is no reason to torture yourself by renting from some company that is even worse than the worse...
They don't want you to pay in full on line because they would have to reveal all the hidden extras, when I arrived late at night I found the quote had doubled, they are miles from the terminal so I had no choice but to accept. There were three other families on the shuttle, they all had the same experience, everybody was absolutely furious.
For example, all rental companies offer to reduce the insurance excess for a fee or you can choose to just accept the basic insurance, these people don't have basic insurance, nil, nothing, so you have to pay about 60% more and even then it only includes the first $5000, any damage over that you are on your own.
Quite frankly I don''t know how the authorities allow them to stay in business. I haver never been ripped off so blatantly or had to do business with such complete scammers in my life.
Pay a few dollars more and go with a reputable company.
They were supposed to refund a $100 fee to us. They refunded $62. I have now been holding for 17min and have yet to talk to anyone.
Fox rent a car is terrible. I rented a car from them in Fort Lauderdale and they stole my wallet from my rental car and provided terrible customer service. I was unable to speak directly with anyone in the location where my wallet was taken. They kept forwarding me to phone numbers that rang indefinitely or to a voicemail that no one ever returned the calls. Very rude, very bad service!
NEVER NEVER rent a car from Fox Rentals in Tamps. They will give you a great price however, the vehicle will be crap, and if you do not purchase the additional "Care package" from them, WHICH WILL BRING THE COST UP TO DOUBLE! YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING THAT MAY GO WRONG WITH THE CAR WHILE YOU HAVE IT!!!!! They gave me a car with a bad tire and I had to pay to have it replaced!!!!!! They give you crap cars and have their customers fix them as they are rented out!!!!! Unless, like I said you pay double for the rental for their extra packages for coverage. You would be much better off just going to Enterprise, Budget etc.....

I recently rented a car for SF and the base price was cheap. HOWEVER, even after waiving EVERY damned add on, one day ended up being 5X the rental -- all because I used 3 gallons of gas and couldn't find a bleeding gas station and turned it in with a full tank but not as full as they wanted.
Tbh I have never had a problem with them....
Used Fox in Denver airport as it was the cheapest. Never again. We got a smelly car and it made for an unpleasant 10 day road trip. My husband thinks they get the used car from bigger car rentals like Hertz etc, hence the older car with lots of mileage.
I rented an economy car from Fox Rent a Car at Phoenix Sky Harbor. In general, I had read bad reviews about Fox but Phoenix received good reviews. Their price was best, but the final cost was not.
I rented an economy car Aveo Chevy or similar. The webpage ad showed a 4 door car, room for 4 passengers and 4 suitcases. When I checked in they gave me a Fiat 500. They said that was their version of a "similar" economy car. It could not hold 4 passengers or 4 suitcases. I agree that a Fiat 500 is "economy", but it is not "similar" to what I had agreed to rent.
I was forced to upgrade at a cost that boosted both my main rental amount and all the hidden taxes associated with the Phoenix airport. Needless to say, I was not pleased.
In retrospect I should have been more forceful by insisting that the Fiat 500 was not similar to what I had rented. On the other hand, I should have been given a car that was actually "similar".
DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE! Booked a car directly through the Fox website for a two week rental. When I went to pick up the car they told me it was going to be nearly $200 more than the amount quoted on my reservation. When I showed the clerk my reservation and my confirming e-mail his reply was "that prices went up". I didn't give in and eventually got the price I was quoted but it took about 30 minutes of debating prior to getting the price I was quoted. When I contacted the customer service department at fox they told me they would review my case and get back with me within 48 business hours. Its been two weeks and still no reply.
The small print of the rental agreement also requires you to purchase their road side assistance which is not included in the quoted price. If y9ou decline the road side assistance and the car breaks down it is the renter's responsibility to get the car back to the Fox location. I'll never rent from them again
We used Fox last summer in San Diego with no problems. The car, a Dodge SUV, was a bit banged up and we made sure it was duly noted before leaving the parking lot. Drove up to San Francicso leaving it there with no problem either. Great rate, too.
