You say you want to spend a mid-winter week in Jackson Hole, but then mention very little interest in participating in winter sports. If I read your post correctly, it's two days of winter sports for your husband and one for you. What are your plans for the other five days for your husband and six for you? That's an awful lot of time for viewing wildlife.
Don't get me wrong. That's my favorite part of the country, with a special love of the Grand Teton NP. But, you're talking about going there mid-winter, when there's not that much other than winter sports to occupy your time.

That's why I posted the question. I am looking for advice on other things to do.

I've never been there in the winter, so I'll readily admit that I'm not an "expert" on that subject, but it would seem to me that the main reason for going to that area that time of the year would be for the winter sports activities like skiing and snowmobiling. But, you state that the two of you wouldn't be spending that much time doing that.
Since your comments have me assuming that you are not avid winter-sports enthusiasts, I just can't think of how you'd "keep busy" for the vast manority of time that week. I'd save a trip to this wonderful, wonderful area for a warmer weather time.

Where will you be traveling from?

If you are not used to really cold weather, Jackson Hole in winter is not the place to "try out" skiing. Like most resorts in the Rockies, they have an excellent ski school and buth their beginner terrain is very limitied. However, if you husband is only taking a lesson one day, he won't get past that anyway. What will you do for ski clothing?

Snowmobiling is slightly better since the outfitters provide snowmobile suits, gloves, helmets and the snowmobiles have heated hand grips.

Other activities would be snowshoeing and possibly even hot air ballooning. There are some very posh spas, gourmet restaurants and nice art galleries in Jackson or at the mountain (Jackson Hole). You could spend a couple days doing those.

I would agree to a certain extent with Howard, that you might enjoy visiting in summer more.

What is your husband's skiing ability? Jackson Hole is a very tough mountain and IMO a beginning skier would not find it very enjoyable. And I could recommend a dozen better place to learn to ski.

PS - also meant to add, you will not see much wildlife because it is buried by the snow. A few moose but that will be about it.

They would see lots of elk on the reserve, but that's good for about 30 min. tops.

If this is your husband first time skiing, then one day ain't gonna cut it. It's not something that most adults get the hang of very well "on the fly". You need half or full day lesson just to start, IMOP.

Let me start over since I obviously didn't explain myself very well. My husband is an excellent skier but has only skied in N.C. and W.V. I can ski, but it's not my most favorite thing to do and I can't keep up with him so that's why I opted not to ski on this trip since it will be more difficult than what I am use to. We figured on him skiing only 1 day so that I wouldn't be on my own to find stuff to do. We have been to Jackson in the summer but only while driving thru to our next destination. We thought it was a great area and wanted to come back and explore. We will be traveling from N.C.

I never questioned the skiing ability levels of you or your husband. My point is that it'll be winter.....and cold! So, I still maintain that your "activity options" are limited if you are not taking significant advantage of the wonderful winter sports activities available during a week's visit in February.

Thanks for the further details Sharon. It sounds like cold weather clothing and ski gear are not an issue.

Skiing is the main activity in Jackson for the winter. I mentioned the others that I know of. You might want to check out the town's visitor web site for other options.

It sounds like you have already bought your tickets, so I hope you do have a good time. If I were going, I would be skiing most days.

You could also look into a trip into Yellowstone. Those do book up ahead since snowmobile and snowcoache permits are limited. The last time I checked, the snowcoaches only enter from W. Yellowstone, which would be a long drive from Jackson. If you did that, you would want to go in and at least stay overnight at the Snow Lodge at Old Faithful to make it worthwhile. It's fairly expensive.

The downtown is cute, lots of shops, some "saloons" and restaurants. Nothing upscale, it's a tourist area, but good for a day.

I don't ski so when I join my DH on ski trips I tend to shop, eat, workout, go to the spa, read. There is a cute downtown square for shopping. Several terrific dining destinations - Snake River Grill, Wild Sage, the restaurant at the Four Seasons whose name I don't recall were all quite good. Go to the spa - I enjoyed the one at the Four Seasons. Hire a trainer and get several good workouts in while hubby skis. Read in front of a cozy lodge fire. There was an interesting art museum south of the airport (north of Jackson) that I enjoyed. Have a nice relaxing time.

Elk Refuge sleigh rides, Yellowstone snowcoach tours, and dogsled tours are great options. You can also enjoy walking the Town Square area and visiting the numerous shops and art galleries. The National Museum of Wildlife Art has a nice collection, and check out the Center for the Arts calendar to see if there are any performances that you might like to see. If you enjoy spa days, there are many excellent spas at the base of the ski area (Teton Mountain Lodge has an excellent one, for example), where you could get spa treatments while your husband is skiing. You can also take the gondola or tram even if you are not a skier. Meet for lunch at Couloir at the top of the gondola, if your husband doesn't want to ski down to the base. And if the weather is nice, dress warmly, and stake out a spot on the deck of the Four Seasons with a hot toddy and a book, while seeing the action on the slopes. Have fun!
