The Newseum is fabulous. We spent all day there. Really well done. The WWII monument is brilliant! Beautiful! Of course can never get enough of the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Wall, nurses, FDR and MLKing. Loved MLKing but thought al litle austere. Great city. Thanks for the tip on the Newseum!!! A little disappointed in Vietnam Wall because am used to seeing personal mementos there. They were so touching and interesting.
Just returned---my favorite sites and museums

The personal items left there are routinely collected and the non perishable ones saved & archived by, I think, the National Park Service. 10 years or so ago there was an incredibly moving exhibition at the Smithsonian displaying many of those items.
If you have the chance to return to DC in the near future, or for anyone else, visit Arlington Cemetery. Section 60 is where many of the Iraq & Afghanistan soldiers are buried and while personal momentos discouraged (and frequently taken up) you will still see things left by friends and family members. It will absolutely break your heart.
Of course I meant, Americans soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sorry about that.
