Hi all,
We are headed for the first time to Hawaii late July w/our kids (11 & 6yo). We will go to Oahu to visit Arizona, etc. for a few days and want to visit another island. We are torn between Maui & Kauai (decided to save BI for another time). We love beaches, some sight seeing, snorkeling, etc. Since we are staying in Oahu, I am concerned that Oahu & Maui may be too crowded/touristy and Kauai will be a better balance. However, thought Maui would be interesting and fun too perhaps more to do. Either way, I realize I can't go wrong w/either island but still would love some input. What would you recommend?
Thank you so much.
Mary

Kauai is lush and beautiful, and much less developed than Maui. it's not where I would head for sightseeing, but it's definitely where I would go for great beaches, gorgeous natural scenery, hiking, etc.
thanks so much for your input! we decided on oahu & maui. thanks again.
Marym - that's a good choice. We took our kids to Maui twice when they were younger and they had a blast. I think when there are a few more things to do the whole family has a good time. There is plenty to do on Maui to keep evereyone interested and engaged and for you all to enjoy the beauty of the island. A good mix of both nature and beach.
thanks so much suzie. your input really helped. i was so afraid that by choosing maui (w/oahu) it would be too much of the same. on the other hand, concerned that kauai may just be too slow of a pace for us (though when the kids are off to college we are headed to kauai!)
anything else you can share would be appreciated! thanks again.
I've done both Maui and Kauai with kids. They love both. Pick what you want.
