Going to Key West has been on my bucket list for awhile and an opportunity has arisen to spend 2 days there in February 2013.
My 2 main questions are:
I want to experience a Key West sunset. Opinions on best viewing spots that also involve good drinks?
Would like to be in a hotel that is within walking distance to nightlife but not in the thick of it and will not break the bank. Clean and simple is fine as I do not anticipate spending too much time at the hotel. Will not have a car.
I appreciate all suggestions. Thanks.

I think your best bet for sunset viewing combined with a place to get drinks would be at Mallory Square. There's an outdoor bar/restaurant at the end of Mallory Square where we watched the sunset, but I don't know how the drinks are.
For accommodations, take a look at the Best Western Plus Hibiscus. It's located one block off the far end of Duval Street, so it's quiet but easily walkable to the nightlife action. We found the rate in June to be very good.
At least on sunset should be from the rooftop of the Crowne Plaza. Might also want to consider a sunset cruise.
Make absolutely sure you stay in Old Towne... your best bet for budget and location would be a small inn www.historickeywestinns.com
Your best Sunset experience would be at the foot of Duval Street at Mallory Square... thousands gather every night along with street performers and vendors to view...theres a Tiki Bar on the Pier at the Ocean Key Resort
Second choice is a sunset sail (with drinks) ... there are several choices... we prefer the Catamaran sail from the Bight...
Have fun...
Thank you all. There's so many places to consider when reaerching on the internet that it's good to be able to concentrate on suggestions to try to narrow it down.
Agree with charsuzan. The view from the hotel rooftop is hard to beat!
Another vote in favor of Mallory Square for sunset viewing.
