Over the holidays, we returned to the aquarium with my parents and our 1-1/2-year old son. It's a smaller aquarium than the one in Monterey, but I appreciate its manageable size. It's perfect for small children. I also would recommend it combined with our Southern California attractions (Disneyland is 12 miles away, e.g), particularly if you can fly in and out of the Long Beach Airport--it's a one terminal airport that Jet Blue flies into and can make for a much easier transition than busy LAX.
Here are some photos and notes from our last visit: http://www.hitherandthither.net/2013/01/visiting-the-aquarium-of-the-pacific.html
Hope it helps!
