What time of year will you go to Hawaii? Have you and the kids ever spent time on Oahu? Lots to see and do in Honolulu, and the north shore is beautiful (not winter).
Kids can get antsy with all the driving around on the very big Big Island. There are few easy-access beaches (best in Kohala area). If you want to see the volcano you need to stay in Volcano or Hilo for at least an overnight.
Condos are great for familes. Maui has the widest choice of condos, hotels, restaurants. Do you have a lodging budget?
Thanks! We are planning the first week of June (when school is out) and staying about 6 or 7 nights. I was hoping to spend under 2500.00 for lodging. You're right - my kids get very antsy driving. This will be their first trip. Trying not to plan too much -- just enjoy the pool/ocean/scenery. Thanks again for your help!
I am on Oahu right now with a 6 year old. I have been to Maui and Big Island before and Oahu is by far my favorite, especially with kids. So much to do and excellent beaches.
Maybe Waikiki Shores? The Ilikai also has condos, but is a bit off the 'main drag'. If you have any military connection, look into Hale Koa.
If you want a rental car, reserve now. Summer is always popular for families visiting the Islands.
