Live in Chicago area and looking for winter resort area. 3 kids, 1st time skiiers (the kids), looking for 3-5 day get away.
I was hoping for a Grand Geneva experience (have visited many times but not skiied) but would like to travel somewhere other than Lake Geneva. Boyne in MI sounds great but gets terrible reviews. Would like to be able to ski and stay on-site yet have access to other activities such as skating, tubing, sleigh rides, water park. It seems I have to choose between a ski area (with few other activities) or a resort (with no skiing).
Am looking at cascade mountain/great wolf lodge in the dells but I don't see any skating options (we are a huge skating family) and I know great wolf lodge is a factory - no charming sleigh rides there. Am I missing a charming resort in dells? Not sure any can be called charming...
Wish Boyne didn't have such terrible reviews.. .
Thoughts on any other options within 6 hours from Chicago?
