I'm looking to relocate. On a whim I decided to apply for a bunch of jobs.. To my surprise I was offered 90% of them. The one I am most interested in is in Lake Dallas, TX. Im looking for some insight. I have no family down there. However, I am an have been looking to get out of Ohio. I'm a 21 year old female who has a great career here in Ohio. Is it worth it to up and leave? The job in Texas sounds great too. Anyone have advice on living in Texas vs Ohio? Or know how lake Dallas is?? Any advice would be great. I really don't want to regret this either way!

Economy is good there. Restaurants and shopping is great. I live in Oklahoma and we visit there several times a year(have for many years). There are sports teams, concerts, etc(that type of thing there). We really like to hike and do outdoorsy type of things. I don't think Texas is that great in that category(especially near Dallas). The other big negative there is it is HOT 100 days out of the year. That said, it isn't cold very often in winter.
If you do want to travel, there are two major airports that makes it going anywhere very easy. I don't like to drive in traffic and Dallas does have some issues(depending on how far away your employment might be)
First off, you realize Lake Dallas is not Dallas. It is closer to Denton than to Dallas.
Would you live in Lake Dallas? If I were 21 and single, there is no way in h*ll, I would live there. I'm sure it is a nice place for families who want to live in a smaller community but not for the young.
I have not been up there in years b/c I have no reason to go that far north (and I live in Dallas)
If you lived in far north Dallas or Addison, the commute would not be too bad since you would be travelling against the flow of traffic. (30 - 45 minutes)
Best of luck to you.
I live in the area and had to look up exactly where Lake Dallas is. I would also not recommend it. Traffic is AWFUL in that area. Although Dallas' DART train now runs up to Denton, not sure where it runs in relation to Lake Dallas. You would be better off IN almost any of the other surrounding areas. Sorry to be such a downer.
Good luck!
No state income tax, lower cost of living, lower cost of housing, premier restaurant and shopping area, lots of concerts and other entertainment.
Yes it is hot during the summer but the other 9 months of the year are very nice.
You don't have to live in Lake Dallas to work there. Lots of people commute every day to work.
If you are looking to get out of Ohio what is it you don't like and what are you looking for?

And that's a daft response because the JOB is in Lake Dallas, not the housing. She can live wherever she wants and neither Addison nor Denton are far. So the choice is stay in Ohio (UGH) or move to Texas. Easy call.
Thanks for all your responses! I hadn't noticed I received replies. I'm actually on my way back to Ohio now from Texas. When I got to lake Dallas I felt disappointed because it wasn't what I expected. However I loved the surrounding areas! I was offered the job officially and I'm taking it. I've put a deposit down on an apt in Lewisville! Seems like a perfect fit for me right now and I'm overly excited!
Congrats and good luck!
'Bye! Good luck!
