Hi everyone I am on my US roadtrip which I will post about fully when I return. It has been amazing so far thanks in no small part to the advice of the Fodors participants so thank you very much! Now, we are in New Orleans, leaving tomorrow, want to get to Nashville ASAP since we really want to see it & we need to drop our rental car to Memphis for a flight home by Monday. So we have 4 days. It looks too far to get from NOLA to Nashville in one day - any suggestions of where to stop off en route if we can't do it in one? Also, once in Nashville we would like to stay centrally but we will have a car and need parking (ouch?) so any well priced but decent inns/hotels would be appreciated. We've avoided chain hotels so far so it would be great to continue with that but it's not a deal breaker. This is the only part of the trip we haven't carefully pre-planned so I hope you can help. Thanks guys!

The fastest route between the two is slightly less than 540 miles. Frankly, I'd suck it up, get up early, and do it in one day but to each their own.
I like The Loveless Cafe(outside of Nashville).
Cheap snack is Las Paletas. Great Popscicles. Try the Avacado Popsicle. These popsicles are really good.
Its just 500 miles to Nashville(or 8 hours or so), so I'd probably just drive it in one day, myself.
You could stop in Birmingham, if you don't want to drive that far.
Hey thanks folks we are going to try to drive it all in one day. We are sharing the driving between two so we should be OK. Anyone have any accommodation recs for Nashville downtown? Thanks
There are numerous nice downtown hotels. The Holiday Inn Express, Best Western and Renaissance are nice. There's a nice Hilton also. Stop at Exit 267 On I 65 in Fultondale for good BBQ at Full Moon just off IS.
Its probably too late for you but the Natchez Trace Parkway is the most beautiful road between Natchez and Nashville...very old, all forests and meadows to picnic in and a lovely weaving through the interior of Mississippi and Tennessee.
