Try the the Hyatt Place, one block from the beach, close to Kapiolani park, great area for walking.
The Waikiki Circle is across the street from the beach. on the balcony of an oceanfront room, you feel as if you are on the beach. some photos from our stay in 07 http://www.worldisround.com/articles/334335/index.html
Rooms have been updated since then with flat screen tvs, new furniture.
Check their prices, but it will be closer to 200 than 400.
to quickly see hotel proximity to the beach, go to wizard pub.com and look at their aerial photos of hotels.
There are only 7 hotels (plus Hale Koa which is military) which are *directly* on Waikiki Beach. I think you budget is plenty for any of them.
I don't have a map at hand, but I think the order is... Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hale Koa, Outrigger Reef, Sheraton, Halekulani, Royal Hawaiian, Moana, Outrigger Waikiki. Any hotels of that class will have a coffee maker. Everything is Waikiki is close to restaurants and shopping. It's a very small concentrated core area.
<<<Any hotels of that class will have a coffee maker.>>>
Actually, it's hotels of "that class" that often don't have a coffee maker in the room, because they want you to order room service or eat in their pricey restaurant. You might want to check with the individual hotels suze listed (and know that Hale Koa is for military only).
aloha, really nice photos...I've been checking coffee makers and most do have them, except the Royal Hawaiian.
Thanks for your replies...I'm hoping to have a great trip.
Oops so sorry for the incorrect information. I stay in cheap hotels and they always have coffee makers -lol! That'll teach me for assuming better is better.
Susie, glad you liked the photos
I was going to suggest the Moana, beautiful stately old hotel, but i took a quick look at prices in May and oceanview was over 400. This is why i stay at the Waikiki Circle, stunning ocean view for a price i can afford. Then i walk across the street, down a block or so, and enjoy the banyan courtyard, the lobby and porch, and historic display at the Moana.
In addition to the ones suze mentioned, the New Otani Kaimana Beach at the other end of Waikiki is also beachfront. And some of these hotels I would consider more oceanfront than beachfront. The Sheraton has almost no beach and mostly just a seawall in front but you can walk along this seawall and the Halekulani also has very little beach with a seawall partially spanning it. That said, if it's within budget, the Halekulani would be my pick.
Would second the New Otani/Kaimana hotel - as it's in a quieter area - and a beautiful place to go for a walk - especially if you head away from busy Waikiki Beach toward Kahala - the Beverly Hills of Honolulu. http://www.kaimana.com/
And you can't get a better setting than their restaurant - on a deck outdoors - under a big Hau tree - overlooking the beautiful Pacific. http://www.kaimana.com/dining.htm
You are also close enough to walk into bustling Waikiki - and if you get tired - you could ride the bus back or take a short taxi ride.
Forgot to add - from the New Otani webpage:
•Coffee Maker / Tea Service upon request
Mauna Surfrider, or the Outrigger Waikiki-at-the-Beach.
Hilton does not have coffee makers.
I really appreciate all the input and have a lot to research and think about.
aloha,
I've looked at the Waikiki Circle website and it really appeals to me. Do you know if there are coffee makers in the rooms? I can't find it on their site.
On the descriptions of room types it says there are coffeemakers http://www.astonwaikikicircle.com/accommodations/hotel-room-oceanfront/
I don't really remember that we made coffee in our room, but i do remember the free coffee in the lobby in the mornings. Man, talking about it and looking at their site really makes me want to be there!
Thanks, aloha, for some reason I missed that even though I searched for it!
Even if there's not, you can probably buy one at CVS for $15.
I've liked the Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel....this is NOT Hilton Hawaiian Village. It's about two short blocks from the beach, very easy walking, reasonable rates. Not sure about coffee maker.
aloha,
Are there any nearby places to pick up muffins, etc. for breakfast in my room? I googled but didn't find anything...I don't want to go out for breakfast and am like in room coffee and a muffin...then will be out for the rest of the day sightseeing...I will not be laying on the beach since I live at the beach and just want a great view and ability to walk and explore which waikiki circle seems to have...
connecticut lady, I've also been looking at that Hilton since I am a HiltonHonors member and would be able to add points...thanks for the suggestion.
SusieQQ, I just posted some more photos from 2011 (no interior room shots though) http://www.worldisround.com/articles/376623/index.html
In Waikiki, there are numerous ABC stores which sell food items that you can take to your room---muffins/danish, premade sandwiches/salads, yogurt, juice, soda, chips etc etc. There are usually one or two ABCs in every block. There is one about 20 feet from the entrance to the Waikiki Circle.
Another option would be Food Pantry http://www.shopsofhawaii.com/shops/food-pantry
which is about 6 blocks away. This is a small grocery store that has a complete selection offood.
Of food, not offood
Down a little and on the other side of street from the Food Pantry is the St. Germain bakery at 2301 Kuhio Street. It has wonderful pastries, croissants, donuts, muffins, and my favorite chocolate iced, custard filled, long johns. They would wrap something for you that would still be fresh for breakfast.
The street is the one behind Kalakaua, the main street along the beach in Waikiki.
It's only 1-1/2 miles walk
-) ) to Leonard's -- go for some fresh hot malasadas!
St Germain's bakery is fabulous! Right across the street from Food Pantry grocery store.
Also a million ABC Stores (not quite but seems like it). There is no shortage of places to pick up a muffin. If you like flavored yogurt, try some of the island flavors... pineapple, coconut, mango, passion fruit, etc. at Food Pantry.
Oh my I forgot about the island flavors of yogurt! So delicious! They are at ABC too...or were in 2011 at least.
I seem to remember a small bakery at the front of Food Pantry, a separate business within the bigger store. Is that still there? I was thinking it had a French name ; was it St Germaine and now they have moved out? Or maybe I am wrong and it was an ice cream place....some kind of sweet treat anyway as I recall.
