Leaving Texas on 10-2-12. Going through Gallup NM and leaving on Hwy 264 to hit 89 and on to Hwy 89 and 67 junction to stay at Jacob Lake Inn. We'll visit N. Rim of Grand Canyon, then head to Kanab. (We have a friend who works at Best Friends Animal Society) Also want to see the Mystical slot Canyons while there ( Looking at tour company for this but hubby wants to drive it since we will be in truck- need information if this is a good thing). Plan on stay there for 3 nights and use it as to go back and forth to other sights instead of hotel hopping. Plus it seems the lodging places are really busy so not as easy to locate one available rooms. Going to Bryce, some of Hwy 12, then maybe Cotton Wood Canyon Dr & back to Kanab. Next day see Hwy 14 and Hwy 141 for scenery plus what ever might be good.
Plus what ever 3 days will do and leave on 4th day to Majestic View Lodge in springdale.
Going to do Narrow at Zion, plus a jeep sunset tour. Not sure right now what else. But we'll be there 2 days and leave on 3rd to head back toward Texas.
Can anyone give some advice that has been to this area and suggestions as to what might be the thing not to be missed or what to and not do.
appreciate any advice. Never been here so want to make the most of our time. Leaving Texas on 10-2-2012 early early and plan opn being back around 10th or maybe 11th.

If you haven't read them - there are other blogs/threads in here under Utah that talk about this area, including one by moi a few months ago. :
Also check out Spirodog as he has some good hikes/pics, as do a few others.
The only possibly complicating factor I see is an early snowstorm (probably small odds in October)- but think they usually have the roads fairly well plowed if that did happen.
It's a beautiful area and with fewer people on the road - should be a blast.
Actually - I think it's Spirobulldog? - or close - and here is another pretty good trip report:

Have been to Utah twice in October. Both times weather was perfect.
Zion Narrows--You will want/need wetsuit or at the very least wet pants. Also rent the shoes and sock. You can get all of this at Zion Adventure Company in Springdale(they have two locations for some reason). Prices were very reasonable I thought. I don't normally hike with a stick, but for The Narrows I would definately have them.
The other "must do"hike there is Angels Landing. It is a lot more strenuous than The Narrows and does place you in a couple of spots that you wouldn't want to fall down. I didn't think it was that scary, but a lot of people do.
Everald Pools and Canyon Overlook are both nice trails. There are plenty of other good ones there too.
If you are really adventurous, consider going Canyoneering with Zion Adventure CO.
