Search the Ogunquit, Cape Neddick and Moody Beach rentals on homeaway.com and vrbo.com
But I don't think that Ogunquit itself has many rentals that are right ON the beach.
I agree - I can't picture any cottages directly on the beach. However, there are lots of cottages a block or so off the beach, particularly in the Footbridge Beach area. If you go a bit further north into Wells (which also has some nice beaches), there are lots of homes that front the beach.
Moody Beach is considered Ogunquit zootsi. A lot of the rentals are only marketed by a sign out front. Some owners adverise at cyberrentals.com. Garnsey Real Estate manages a number of rentals in Ogunquit and Wells. Over the years we have stayed in quite a few in both Moody Beach and Wells Beach. We prefer Moody and always loved walking into town at sunrise for coffee and scones.
We no longer rent as we friends with beach house benefits in Wells. When we did rent, we would often take an autumnal drive or an early spring drive and check out what was available. A lot of owners will take down their for rent signs during the summer once they are fully booked. So you will see more signage off season.
Thanks for the replies!
So, for beachfront should we focus on Moody Beach and Wells Beach?
I'm not crazy about Wells Beach, seems a little bit honky-tonkish to me. I get the same feeling at Long Beach in York. I'd rather stay a couple of blocks from the beach in Ogunquit.
Terrace by the Sea has a couple of nice apartment/suites.
Here are a couple of photos of Wells Beach, one of the Moody Beach area and one of Ogunquit Beach:

In Moody as well as Wells, many of the properties across the street are more desirable then ocean front. Much more privacy. They often have front porches for morning coffee and the special ones have back porches for evening meals watching the sunset over ever changing river and marsh. Much more private and festive. And I have partied on both sides of the street!
Most ocean front properties do not have beachfront porches due to winter weather and tidal sand shifts. So evening meals are overlooking the street with just a glimpse of the marsh between houses and the setting sun.
I like Moody Beach, and agree with Lookin_Glass.
