Hello everyone. We are planning a 16-17 might vacation in the second half of September and are strongly considering driving from Portland to San Francisco, partly along the coast and partly inland. We would appreciate any tips and recommendations for this trip.
A few guidelines: we will fly into Portland and spend only about a night there as we visited the city just a few years ago. We want to see part of the Oregon coast, though I think Crater Lake would be a worthwhile inland detour. In California, we definitely want to see Lassen Volcanic National Park and end up in San Francisco for 3 or 4 days. We have never been to the wine country or the north California coast and last visited SF in 1985.
Right now, we are wavering between visiting southern Germany and Austria or this driving trip, and we are really unfamiliar with the sights between Portland and SF so all ideas and thoughts are really welcome.
