Please help - need last-minute hotel (for Sep 29)

My husband and I are traveling to NO for a few days, and are set for lodging EXCEPT our first night there (Saturday the 29th). We were really hoping to stay at Madewood in Plantation Country and waited to book in order to get a last minute special. Unfortunately, it got booked up.

So we are leaving in less than 48 hours and have no idea where to stay. Any advice for finding last-minute specials at a nice B&B in Plantation country? Or even a cheap (<$100) hotel in New Orleans itself? We'll have a car that first day so happy to stay in any neighborhood as long as safe at night.

I've never traveled without having lodging reservations before, so am getting quite worried...
