I will be near Midland on a business trip. I'd like to spend sometimes to check out the area. Is there anything to do within 2-hr drive? Thanks

In Midland, there's the Marshall Fredericks Sculpture Museum on the grounds of Saginaw Valley State University. You're about 20 minutes from Bay City which has a nice waterfront on Saginaw Bay. The Great Lakes Loons, a Class A baseball team, plays at the Dow Diamond in Midland. Reserved seats are $9.
Maybe others can offer more, or you can check the tri-cities tourism bureau at www.visitgreatlakesbay.org.
How soon will you be coming?
Matrix Midland is in full swing with a variety of events. Check the Midland Center for the Arts website for details.
For dining, there are a number of local places on/near Main St - Molly's Bistro, Diamond Jim's & Oscars.
My favorite place to visit in Midland is the Alden Dow house and studio.(He was an architect who trained under Frank Lloyd Wright) It is on the edge of the Dow Gardens. Check the web site for days and times it is open. The Dow Gardens are also beautiful to walk through. There is also a very nice museum at the Midland Center for the Arts. All 3 are within a mile of each other.
Midland really has little to offer in the way of restaurants. Cafe Zinc on main street is nice.
The rest are primarly chains.
