road trip ideas Houston-Miami-NY

I plan to have a 2 or 2.5 week road trip from Houston->Miami->NY. I'd like to stop by towns along the way which has rich historical or cultural events, traditional/stylish architecture or unique foods. Any suggestion is appreciated.

BTW, any suggestion about golf court open to the public (no membership needed) in FL?
