"best" in what respect?
There are numerous hotels that are on the riverwalk. Their downstairs door usually even connect to the riverwalk itself. You can't go wrong with any of the name brands. Marriott has two on the River,Hyatt is there with a huge hotel, and Hilton has a very nice one. Those would be the "best" in my opinion. There are numerous other ones as well. Valencia is highly rated and there is a new Embassy Suitess.
"Best" is subjective. Give us an idea what you mean. We stayed at the Alamo Comfort Suites in March and thought it was fantastic. Low cost, 4 blocks to Riverwalk, quiet, decent breakfast, and best of all - a free wine and beer tasting everyday in the lounge.
LOVE Hotel Contessa. Elegant. Walk right out the door to the Riverwalk. Nice, quiet end of Riverwalk. Nice Restaurant and Bar. Wonderful pool on roof with wind protection. Was able to lay by the pool in Feb. last year. Didn't try the spa, but it looks nice. Rooms are very big - all suites. We love the King Bed suite, facing the River. Stayed a lot of places in SA, but now always book the Contessa.
