My husband and I are traveling to San Diego in mid Feb. I booked the Bahia resort for several nights and we have lots we want to do there. It has been a long time since being in Calif. so I am not sure where to go next. Laguna and Newport are on my list
but is Palm Beach a good idea. We have until end of first week in March. Ideas?
San Diego and where?

Here are my ideas.
San Diego, thumbs up. After you see what you wish, take a last look at the ocean, then head inland. You can visit many areas during February that are considered too hot during the summer by some of the heat-sensitive regulars on these boards.
Skip Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. Seen one beach town, ya seen 'em all. And yes, I lived in one many years ago. Then I woke up.
Thumbs up for:
San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
Temecula Wine Country
Anza Borrego Desert State Park
Mission San Juan Capistrano
Palm Springs. You mentioned it and yes, it's a good idea.
Joshua Tree National Park
Death Valley National Park (Two thumbs at least)
The Bahia is a great location - and you can walk along the bay from there - or head a couple blocks over to the Boardwalk along the ocean.
As for what else to do after SD - so much depends on how much you want to see/do - drive to.
Within an hour of SD - you could be in Julian - an old mining town up in the woods - where they make great Apple Pie.
Or you might also stop at Idyllwyld - a mountain/artists' retreat - a couple hours away - beyond Temecula - which is on the way to Palm Springs if you decide to visit the Coachella Valley.
My suggestion would to be to drive at least partway up the beautiful California Coast - maybe spending the first night in Danish themed Solvang - ( http://www.cityofsolvang.com/ _an hour and a half or so beyond LA - 4 hours from SD assuming you go after the morning commute rush in LA.
Or - perhaps drive a couple hours further to Cambria (Moonstone Beach is beautiful - right on the Ocean http://www.cambriachamber.org/motels-beach.php ) - and also tour Hearst Castle. http://www.hearstcastle.org/
