We will be on a scenic driving tour and driving from the east Glacier area to Idaho Falls on 7-14 and are looking for the most scenic route that does not go through yellowstone. I've looked at rtes 287/87 to rte 20 and rtes 191/287 to rte 20 and of course sticking to I-15. Any recommendation on which rte and any specific scenic stops on the way would be appreciated. We will be initially entering Yellowstone from the Beartooth hwy and exiting through Mammoth on the way to Glacier and then reentering Yellowstone from Idaho Falls and the GTs on the way to Cody. I'm trying to not cover the same ground twice and stay off the Interstates when more scenic routes are available. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

You can specify a scenic route on www.viamichelin.com, or even choose to take a detour though Yellowstone.
Thanks Michael, I'll also check part of the two routes on google map street views, but personal reports from local residents or travelers seem to help me more.
US 2 or Going-to-the-Sun to Columbia Falls, Montana 83 to Montana 200 to Missoula, US 93 to Salmon Falls, State Route 28 to I 15 to Idaho Falls.
Thanks Ackislander, you are right, the drive from Columbia Falls on rtes 83 and 93 to Salmon Falls is a beautiful drive which we have done before. I had not thought of it, but would be tempting to do it again, except rte 28 to I-15 seems like 200 miles of really high lonesome and going further south on 93 would be a little too much out of the way. I want to enter the GT's from Jackson. I believe I will plan on Rte 89 to I-15 and I-15 to Butte. Then I-90 east to Belgrade and pick up rte 191 south to W. Yellowstone and rte 20 west/south to Idaho Falls. Of course I may change my mind before July. Thanks for the remind on rtes 83 and 93 though.
