Does any one have first hand knowledge of the Scottsdale Fairmont "gold experience" rooms? I'm assuming its much like club lounge in other hotels. Is it worth the extra price? Also, I'd be interested in hearing about their casitas.

Yes, the Fairmont hotels "gold" level is basically like concierge levels in other hotel chains. I've been in gold level rooms in several Fairmonts but never in Arizona unfortunately.
Agree with Dukey1. I just stayed at the Scottsdale Fairmont "gold experience" room (actually in a casita) and it was very nice.
Not sure if you've ever stayed at this property, but I sort of have a love-hate relationship with it. I LOVE that it has so much to do and is so family friendly (I went on January 1 and there was an outdoor ice skating rink, and they had converted a golf-cart into "the Polar Express", and had tours around the grounds). I don't love that it is so huge, and you most likely will need either 15 minutes or a golf cart right to get from one place to another.
On the whole, I felt that the resort was showing some wear when I went. Even though I was staying in a large casita suite with the gold experience, it still felt old and slightly grungy, and there was a musty smell about it. Didn't help when I saw a prehistoric-2-inch roach in the bathroom the next morning, either.
