I am going to Washington DC for a couple days. i would to ride bicycles around town and visit the sites. It sounds like everything is accessible by bike. Any input? I am trying to decide where to stay taking this into account. Can anyone shed some light?

As far as recommendations for places to stay........what is your budget? Will you need to park a car?
You will also need to give EXACT dates for hotel recommendations. I take it you are going solo.
october 28 29 and 30. I will not have a car so no parking necessary. My budget is $ 100 - $ 200 / night.
The Americana Hotel www.americanahotel.com should be in your price range. It's in Arlington, close to a Metro station, and I believe there are some Capital Bikeshare stands nearby if you'd rather bike.
Lee Ann
You can get a 4* or 4-1/2 * hotel on Hotwire for your dates for $93 a night in the Capitol Hill Area or for $125 or $149 in the White House/Downtown area.
I'd stay at the Tabbard Inn downtown, or maybe the Aaron Shipman House near Logan Circle. More fun than a hotel.

I would recommend the Woodley Park Guest House. It fits your budget and is great for the solo traveler. You could take the Metro to the mall and rent a bike there. Once you get into the area around the mall, it is very congested with pedestians. Last year I saw a biker go head first into a tree trying to avoid pedestrians. Both were on the sidewalk traveling in the same direction. The pedestrians did not see him coming from behind and walked right in front of the bike.
Bikes are not supposed use sidewalks in the downtown area, but must take their chances in vehicle traffic. Bring your helmet!
