Planning a trip to the far reaches of our fine state, just about the only part I seemed to have missed since I have lived here & am seeking must sees, recommendations, etc. We'll find a secluded place to stay on vrbo but restaurants, entertainment ideas, etc. are welcomed. The trip will be somewhere between 5-7 days & be in the April-June timeframe. Outdoor activities encouraged, esp. good hiking spots. Thx !
Western NC - Murphy, Andrews, etc.

There may well be snow and it is certain to be cold in April, so I would go later if possible.
My family spent its summers about a Sunday drive away from Murphy when I was growing up. I would say that looking at mountains pretty much covered the entertainment then. But they are very beautiful mountains, and if you time it right, the rhododendrons and mountain laurels are beautiful.
Rhodys will bloom and mountain laurel in May - June and IMO that's the prettiest time to be hiking in the mountains. If you haven't rafted one of the rivers, put that on your list. Mostly, relaxing and enjoying the sweet (literally) mountain air is the absolute best. You can't go wrong with anything all the way from Asheville down to the NE Ga corner.
