I will telll you that my foodie kids ate at Husk in August and were underwhelmed. There have been a few grumblings on here about it also. Just a recent thought.

Thanks for the heads up Gretchen. Now I'm thinking FIG or do you suggest something else? It's our only solo night out and for our anniversary so I'd like something special-the whole comment about "the chef considers his dishes perfectly seasoned" makes me wonder if Chef Brock has bought into his own hype a bit much...

I think you may have it. SueWoo is the one to tell you. I think FIG has held up, but have no knowledge. Our folks were really disappointed--got in on a cancellation, and mind you, the three people going are INTIMATELY a part of the restaurant world, having owned them, and now a couple of them managing a 5* set of restaurants and the other owning 2 here in Charlotte--none in that area, so it isn't the competition!!
When they came back with that report, I said I started to tell them what I had heard, and they said it was "fine"--they really wanted to go for themselves, even if I had "reported". I think Sue has had iffy times also.

We may try to feel it out for lunch or a drink one night. We're in town for a family wedding staying in Folly Beach so our time belongs to someone else's schedule for a lot of this trip, unfortunately. SNOB is also a possibility...

I LOVE FIG. But make a reservation. I've had good experiences at Husk, but some of my friends report hit or miss. If you only get one nice dinner pick FIG, Tristan, or Anson. I like SNOB too. High Cotton is another one of my favorites. Also look at some of the new places on Upper King: MacIntosh, Butcher and Bee (really fun!) , the Grocery, and Two Boroughs Larder. All of those are new since you've visited. Brunch at Grocery is outstanding.

There's a place out on Folly that I've been trying to get to but have yet to go-Wich Doctor. If you go, tell me what you think.

Suewood, Thanks for chiming in! I already was lamenting that we didn't have enough time and now you've confirmed it! We got a FIG reservation and are hoping to squeeze in a lunch at SNOB. Thinking Husk may be good for drinks before dinner. Are any of the above mentioned new restaurants family friendly for two (usually) well behaved kids?

Gonna definately check out Witch Doctor. I also found reference to Red Hen on James Island. Ever been there?

You mean Fat Hen? Yes, I've been. Nice menu, lots of families. Sunday brunch is particularly good.

The bar at Husk is really neat, so you may want to have a drink there.

Two Borughs Larder might not be great for kids. It has lots of shelves with retail stuff all over the place. Could be trouble. B&B and Grocery should be fine for your children.

The one thing our kids swooned at at Husk was--ready? Chicken fried chicken skin with a great dipping sauce!!
