If you are going to go to the Arch then I would reccomend staying mid town or downtown. then you can hop on the interstate and leave.

What is your budget?

There is a new Hampton Inn and suites at Forest Park - YOu may want to take an drive through this historic park the next morning before heading downtown ( 5-10 min away tops) for the Arch.
There is a Hampton Inn downtown as well.

We'd like to spend no more than $200 a night. That Hampton in Forest Park looks like just what we're looking for. Is parking near the Arch an issue? We'd be getting an early start and would probably be downtown before 9:00 on Saturday. I'm a little hesitant to stay downtown because a family member stayed at the downtown Hampton a few years ago and had their car broken into overnight.

Parking will be no problem. There is a street parking and garage parking near Arch.

If you can make a little tour through the park - It really is worth it - it is beautiful. You may even want to grab a coffe/breakfast at one of the cafes in there and then head downtown.

I am guessing Pat is coming from Michigan since that is part of the screen name. SO from the north??? I dont think it really matters. St L is not that big where it makes much of a difference.

There is a nice Drury Inn downtown, right by the arch. In an historic building, with free breakfast and evening cocktail hour with snacks. Parking garage next door for a fee.

Check the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch. I've reserved this hotel several times but had to cancel so I can't give you a review, but I'm on their email list and have received some great offers. I actually had a room reserved a couple of years ago for $1.

You can get nice deals on Hotwire or Priceline, too. 4 or 5* minimum. Forest Park, Clayton areas all good.

The Chase in the Central West End has a parking garage and is very nice.

I am partial to the Cheshire Inn, just southwest of Forest Park. No worries with parking/safety there.

The Hyatt, Hampton or Drury would all be good.

We were in St. Louis for a volleyball tournament just last month. I don't like to be negative, but DO NOT stay at The Millenium. Our volleyball club had entire teams leave and find other accommodations. In our team, we have three families leave for another hotel. Just a heads up for you to avoid that particular hotel.

We stayed in the Springhill Suites by Marriott in Brentwood which is right of of highway 40 and easy access into downtown. It had a nice modern room that was recently redone. When we lived in St Louis, you didn't want to go driving around Forest Park at night.

You could also drive to Union Station and take the light rail (Metro in St Louis) to the Arch. Union Station is nice. And don't miss the movie downstairs in the Arch about how it was built. It's pretty cool.

My daughters and I ride our bikes home after the Muny and Shakespeare Festival(through Forest Park) by our female selves sometimes. It's especially nice when the fireflies are out over the golf course.

Union Station Marriott, and taking the Metro, is certainly an idea. My nephew recently had his wedding reception there, and the out of towners liked their rooms just fine. The lobby is amazing. I think the guests paid $15/night to park in their lot.

Thanks for all these great suggestions. We decided to go with the suburbs given the brief nature of our stay. We booked a Doubletree in Collinsville,Illinois just off the freeway.
