The downtown area looks like it would be nice. Where would be the best location and hotel to visit the city? Also, are there any sites that I should see?

For heavens sake, why go to Cedar Rapids? None of my business! And just kidding as we are headed there soon for a high school reunion. Places to stay incl. Comfort Inn and Best Western. Places to see might be Brucemore historic mansion, African American Museum, Grant Wood paintings at art museum and Turner Funeral Home, maybe Quaker Oats plant, and I'm wondering if there is a Czech museum after the flood. And of course not far away is the Amanas (several settlements) for food and crafts.

Downtown Cedar Rapids has the Crown Plaza Five Seasons Hotel. I think some of the rooms have been recently renovated. The property needed redone. Northeast Cedar Rapids has a Marriott hotel along with a Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Baymont Inn, Mainstay Suites and maybe another close by. Not far away from them also is a Quality Inn. The south side of town, around 33rd Ave, SW has numerous chain hotels and further south, at the airport exit, is at least two hotels.
http://www.cedar-rapids.com/ is the web site of The Cedar Rapids CVB. Northeast Iowa has lots to see also this time of year.

I would suggest staying at Fairfield inn & Suites Cedar Rapids.
I have driven past the Fairfield Inn Hotel on Interstate 380 and Highways 27 and 17 by visiting their website:
