We'll be arriving in Salt Lake about 10:30 am after a 4 am start from the east coast. We have 2 nights to stay somewhere before we arrive in Mammoth Hot Springs for 2 nights. This will be followed by 4 nights at Signal Mt and 5 at Old Faithful. Trying to decide if we should drive a distance, perhaps 200 miles, into either Idaho or Wyoming for those 2 nights, even though we'll be very tired, or if we should stay closer to Salt Lake for one night and somewhere else the second night.
We had originally been looking at going to Idaho Falls so we could then visit, Craters of the Moon. Now wondering if there's an interesting place we could stop in Wyoming.
Any suggestions or thoughts appreciated.
Where to stay in Idaho or Wyoming between SLC and Mammoth

If all you need is some sleep, try Logan Utah and then head up the more scenic US 89 past Bear Lake.
You could come back by way of Craters of the Moon.
that is a brutal flight time. I would carve it up a bit on the drive. You can get to Idaho Fall in 3 hours from SLC, they have a good regional museum there with some fun special exhibits. Stay there and then drive the next day to Mammoth-should be about 2 hours to West Yellowstone and then your mileage will vary through the park. If you really want to push it, drive to West Yellowstone on that first day you land, but oh that will be such a looooooooong day!!! I would much rather split it up.
