Yes, It's official...we were planning our visit for the first week of april and were eagerly awaiting word about our request for WH tour but instead received the dreaded email that tours have been cancelled indefinately.
My sympathies, but really, you didn't miss that much. It's a very brief, very limited self-guided tour. I'm glad I did it once, but it's barely worth all the hassle of getting in.
Good place to start cutting spending. Most likely LOTS of this kind of waste out there!!
Maybe it would be nice if President Obama or Michelle would delay their next vacation by one day.
The cost of one day of their vacation would save enough, I would think, to leave the touring open during April and May or maybe longer.
Might even feed some hungry children if they stayed in the White House for Spring break. Most people have to stay home during spring break, due to lack of funds.
betsy3 - you should leave political comments to a different website. This site is about travel.
Flygirl, we just received a confirmed WH tour, (not to say that it won't be canceled at a later date). Maybe because we are going to DC in June?
jlub--
I did not notice that I was on the travel forum until after posting. Sorry for that.
The word "sequester" and the comment before mine caught my eye.
Although, you took it upon yourself to correct me, but not John.
I guess you have something against my comment.
Just like nwlatino76 I too am planning a trip the first week of April... Really a little nervous about the crowds, but trying to put on a brave front. We received notice yesterday from our congressman's office that all tours were suspended as of March 9th.

But NewBe is right, there are so many other things we want to do that I'm also a little relieved not to have to be somewhere at an exact time etc. And I won't have to try to figure out where to stash my stuff so we can go...
Lizzy, our WH tour was first thing in the morning and we were staying with friends. So we left all our stuff at home, went and did the tour at 7:30, gulp, then went back to their place and restarted the day. The early hour was bad, but any other tour time would have taken a big bite out of the day. And it's just not much of a tour, although being in the WH is exciting in and of itself, of course.

Don't fret too much about crowds. The city is built to handle them
Betsy, that's like asking you to give up a days vacation and to donate the money to the Save the White House Tour cause.
