Overview

Costa Cruises built its first really large, all-new ship in the mid-1990s, and it's a stunning contemporary vessel with expansive areas of glass that fill interiors with sunlight. In addition to a seven-deck atrium with an overhead skylight and panoramic elevators at the heart of the ship, a unique four-deck-high observation lounge has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ship's bow.

Costa Victoria has all the bells and whistles expected on ships these days, including large lounges for entertainment and dancing and cozy spaces for cocktails and conversation. All public spaces reflect a chic Italian flair with rare marbles accenting floors and walls, but with heavy emphasis on reflective metals. The aft-facing Tavernetta Lounge is one of the most soothing spots on board with its wicker furniture and soft pastel furnishings.

Restaurants

Two restaurants serve open-seating breakfast and lunch, while dinner is served in two assigned evening seatings. An upscale alternative, reservations-only restaurant carries a service charge for intimate dining -- a perk for suite passengers is a complimentary dinner for two here. The Lido buffet, pizzeria, a poolside grill, and 24-hour room service are alternatives to dining room meals. Costa ships retain the tradition of lavish nightly midnight buffets.

Accommodations

Light-wood cabinetry, soft pastel décor, mirrored accents, and a small sitting area are typical of all cabins, which also have a small refrigerator, personal safe, and hairdryer. While floor space is quite tight in standard categories, every cabin has adequate closet and drawer/shelf storage. Additional features in the suites include whirlpool tubs, double sinks, and generous closet space. Passengers in both suites and mini-suites enjoy butler service. While the ship had no balconies at all when it was launched, 246 were later added to four mini-suites and 242 standard outside cabins. Six cabins are wheelchair-accessible.
