Grand Princess (Grand Class)

When Grand Princess was introduced in Europe, she was affectionately dubbed the Shopping Cart because her stern spoiler reminded Europeans of a grocery cart.

When Grand Princess was introduced as the world's largest cruise ship in 1998, she also boasted one of the most distinctive profiles. Not only did the Skywalker's Disco appear futuristic, hovering approximately 150 feet above the water line, but this and other Grand-class vessels also brought the idea of a floating resort to an entirely new level with more than 700 staterooms that included private balconies.

The answers to these and a thousand other cruise-related questions can be found in Fodor's new guide to Caribbean cruises.

Port and starboard balconies are stepped out from the ship's hulls in wedding-cake fashion. That means, depending on location, yours will likely be exposed a bit -- or a lot -- to passengers on higher decks. Exceptions are balconies on Emerald deck, which are covered. Nearly infamous for the huge size of their balconies are minisuites E728 and E729. The space is great for relaxing and entertaining, but you'll probably hear the band during shows in the Vista Lounge below E278 and a strange mechanical-sounding noise in E729.
