When considering an NCL cruise, keep in mind that the ships weren't cut from a cookie-cutter mold, and they differ widely in size and detail. Although all are brightly appointed and attempt to offer a comparable experience, the older ships just don't have the panache or the numerous Freestyle dining selections found on the newer, purpose-built ships. Drawbacks for families are the smallish standard cabins that lack adequate storage on the older ships and the absence of self-service laundry facilities on most ships. On the plus side, the newest vessels have many options for families, including large numbers of interconnecting staterooms that make them ideal for even super-size clans. By 2009 NCL will have one of the newest fleets at sea following the introduction of two large, new vessels in 2007; older mid-size ships are being transferred to parent Star Cruises in Asia. |
