Flagship of the Windjammer Barefoot Cruises fleet, the four-masted barquentine Legacy began sailing in 1959 as France II, a meteorological research vessel for the French Government. After Windjammer acquired her in 1989, she was renovated with custom interiors, roomy accommodations, and up-to-date navigational systems.

Legacy is a good choice for first-time Windjammers. Although it's a bit cushier in terms of facilities, none of the bold 'jamming attitude is missing. For reassurance, just take a good look at the carved figurehead: that's no mermaid -- it's Cap'n Mike Burke himself with a beer in hand.
