SV Yankee Clipper

Christened the Cressida in 1927, the graceful German schooner was the only armor-plated private yacht in the world during her heyday. After the U.S. government commandeered the yacht as booty following World War II, George Vanderbilt subsequently purchased her for racing off the California coast, renaming her Pioneer. Once hailed as one of the fastest tall ships on the west coast, she was rescued from the scrappers in 1965 by Windjammer and given a new lease on life as Yankee Clipper.
