History

While not a twin to Saga Rose, Saga Ruby is the perfect sister-ship. Saga Ruby was originally christened as Vistafjord in 1973 and sailed alongside her present Saga fleetmate in the now-defunct Norwegian American Line. Their differences were subtle then and are still barely discernible from afar. Saga Ruby has a particularly pleasing stepped-down stern that adds to her ocean liner appearance.

With her interiors fine-tuned in 2005, Saga Ruby features modern furnishings, a brand-new spa facility, and a top-deck fitness center with views to port and starboard. Like Saga Rose, she also has a ballroom and cinema, a card room, and a well-stocked library, where computers and DVDs can be found in addition to books. Preview Club is a lively spot for drinks before dinner and for dancing afterward.

Restaurants

"View" is the intimate specialty restaurant: seating only a dozen diners, it requires reservations but charges no additional fee. The main dining room accommodates all passengers in one sitting at assigned tables. For casual meals, the Lido Café is the ship's buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch as well as midnight buffets. Weather permitting, outdoor seating is plentiful for al fresco dining. Afternoon tea is served daily and 24-hour room service is available.

Accommodations

Each cabin has generous closet and storage space, a vanity/desk, flat-screen television, DVD player, and hairdryer. Most have a bathtub in addition to a shower. All cabins have lower berths, although some twin beds cannot be converted to a king-size; some cabins and suites have balconies and refrigerators. Warm woods and rich fabrics add to the comfort of accommodations in all categories. Two sumptuous duplex suites feature a balcony on each level (one with a hot tub), a whirlpool bathtub, private sauna, and exercise equipment. Saga Ruby has rare single staterooms for solo passengers. Six cabins are wheelchair accessible.
